Abstract

An amusement device which includes a number of elongate rectangular playing sheets separated by opaque spacer sheets of lesser length arranged in a pack with the tearable sheets and spacer sheets being removably secured to one another. Each of the playing sheets has a number of randomly selected insignia of different appearance imprinted thereon. The insignia when arranged in predetermined sequences or groups have a certain game value that is agreed upon by the players. Due to the differential in length of the playing sheets and the spacer sheets, each playing sheet has a second end portion that provides a tab that may be gripped by the fingers. The tabs are employed by the players to separate the playing sheets from the pack to determine which player has a winning score.

2. Description of the Prior Art In the past, various types of games have been devised that include the use of a deck of playing cards. Such games, of

course, require the use of a table or other playing surface, and usually require a sustained period of time for the game to be completed.

The present amusement device may be based on one of the above-mentioned types of games that is played with cards,'but has the advantage that no deck of cards or playing surface is required, and the amusement device may be utilized to play a game in a very short period of time.

The present amusement device is inexpensive to produce, to the degree that it may be given away as a premium for advertisement purposes or the like.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A number of elongated tearable playing sheets of rectangular shape, that are separated from one another by opaque spacer sheets that are shorter in length than the tearable sheets when the sheets are arranged as a pack. Both the tearable sheets and the spacer sheets have first transverse ends that are aligned, and the portions of the sheet adjacent these first ends being fastened to one another by a staple or other means. An opaque wrapper is provided, that is preferably no longer than the spacer sheets, with the wrapper extending transversely about the pack of spacer and tearable sheets. Due to the dif ferential in length between the spacer sheets and the tearable sheets, each tearable sheet has a second end portion that projects from the wrapper, and serves as a tab. Each tab is so disposed that it may be gripped by the fingers of a player, and when so gripped and longitudinal force exerted on the sheet of which it forms a part, the tearable sheet may be withdrawn longitudinally from the wrapper.

Each of the tearable sheets has a number of randomly selected insignia thereon, with the insignia either due to a predetermined sequence or grouping having a certain game value that is agreed upon by the players. Each player in sequence, is handed the pack, selects a tab, and withdraws the tearable sheet of which it forms a part from the wrapper. The tearable sheets so selected by the players are then compared, and the player having a sheet on which the insignia of the highest game value is the winner.

A major object of the present invention is to provide a compact, simple, and inexpensive amusement device in which the players in sequence select tearable sheets therefrom, and the sheet having a grouping of insignias of the highest game value being the winner.

Another object of the invention is to supply an amusement device that is particularly adapted for use in advertising purposes as inexpensive premiums and the like and as an amusement device that requires little or no skill in the playing thereof.

Yet another object of the invention is to furnish an amusement device that due to its compact nature and light weight is portable, and may be used by two or more players without recourse to other playing equipment.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a first form of the amusement device, in which a plurality of insignia-bearing sheets are separated by a plurality of opaque spacer sheets and the sheets being removably held together by an adhesive that extends along the sides thereof when the sheets are arranged in a deck;

FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the amusement device shown in FIG. 1 after one of the spacer sheets has been bent back to expose an insignia situated thereon;

FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the first form of the'amusement device after the exposed insignia sheet has been bent back to expose the last spacer sheet situated thereon;

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a second form of amusement device in which insignia-bearing tearable sheets are disposed in a pack and separated by opaque spacer sheets of shorter length, and the pack having an opaque wrapper extending transversely therearound, and the sheets being secured adjacent their first ends by a staple that extends therethrough;

FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the second fonn of amusement device after a projecting second end portion of a tearable sheet that acts as a tab has been gripped and force exerted on the sheet of which it fonns a part to separate the sheet from the amusement device and expose the insignia on the sheet; and

FIG. 6 is the same perspective view of the second form of the amusement device as shown in FIG. 5, but after a second tearable sheet has been removed therefrom, to be compared with the first sheet shown in FIG. 5 to determine which player is the winner.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS length. The spacer sheets and playing sheets are alternately arranged to form a pack as shown in FIG. 1. Each of the playing sheets has a number of randomly selected insignia D imprinted thereon, with the insignia on each sheet being concealed by the opaque spacer sheet B situated thereabove. The spacer sheets B and playing sheets C, due to their differential in length, cooperate to provide tabs E that may be gripped by the fingers. The spacer sheets B and playing sheets C are removably held together in the form of the pack shown in FIG. 1 by an adhesive material F that extends along the longitudinal sides of the pack, and preferably along the end of the pack that is remote from the tabs E. When the uppermost one of the tabs E is gripped by the fingers, the playing sheet C of which it forms a part and the spacer sheet B situated thereabove may be separated from the pack, as a unit, with the spacer sheet then being separated from the playing sheet to expose the insignia D on the playing sheet. Also, the uppermost spacer sheet B may be bent from the deck if desired, to expose the insignia D on the playing sheet C situated therebelow. The exposed playing sheet may be then separated from the pack, and the next spacer sheet then being visible to the players.

The above described operation is performed in sequence by each of the players, and the players when the operation is complete comparing the insignia on the removed playing sheets. Prior to the start of the game, the players agree that a particular sequence or grouping of the insignia D will have predetermined game values, and the player having a removed playing sheet with the highest game value of insignia thereon will be the winner.

A second form of the amusement device F is shown in FIGS. 4 to 6 inclusive, which includes a number of elongate rectangular spacer sheets 10 formed from an opaque material that serve to separate a number of tearable sheets 12 that are of longer length than the spacer sheets. The spacer sheets 10 and tearable sheets 12 have first ends thereof in aligned positions, as shown in FIG. 4, and the sheets being held together to define a pack by a staple or other fastening means 14 that extend therethrough. Due to the differential in length of the spacer sheets 10 and tearable sheets 12, the second end portion of the tearable sheets project from the spacer sheets and provide tabs 16, each of which tabs may be gripped between the fingers of a user, to permit the tearable sheet of which the tab forms a part to be separated from the pack. The pack of spacer sheets 10 and tearable sheets 12 has an opaque wrapper 18 that extends transversely therearound, with the wrapper being of no greater length than the length of the spacer sheets. Each of the tearable sheets 12 has a serrated tear line 20 formed thereon which is situated intermediate the staple 14 and the second ends 22 of the tearable sheets. Each of the tearable sheets 12 between the serrated tear line 20 and the end 24 of the spacer sheets has a number of randomly selected insignia G thereon which insignia either due to the sequence or grouping thereof has a game value that is agreed upon by the players utilizing the amusement device.

The second form of the amusement device is used in sequence by the players, with the player on one hand gripping the wrapper l8, and then selectively exerting a longitudinal force on one of the tabs 16 in a direction to separate the tearable sheet of which it forms a part from the pack, with the tear occuring along the line 20. In FIG. it will be seen that one of the tearable sheets has been so removed, as has occured in the illustration shown in FIG. 6. The tearable sheet so removed has the insignia thereon compared by the players, and the player having the insignia G of the highest game value is the winner.

The use and operation of the amusement device has previously been explained in detail and need not be repeated.

The amusement device may have advertising or other printed material such as a trademark or the like l-l shown in phantom line in the drawings imprinted both on the wrapper 18 and the spacer sheets B and 10.

lclaim:

1. An amusement device that includes:

a. a plurality of rectangular opaque spacer sheets of a first length;

b. a plurality of tearable rectangular sheets of the same width as said spacer sheets and of a second length greater than that of said spacer sheets, said tearable sheets each having a plurality of insignia thereon that are chosen at random and have a predetermined game value relative to insignia on other of said sheets, and each of said tearable sheets and said spacer sheets having first and second ends;

c. first means that engage said spacer sheets and tearable sheets adjacent said first ends thereof to hold them in a pack in which said first ends are transversely aligned and said tearable sheets are alternately disposed between said spacer sheets, with each of said tearable sheets when so disposed in said pack having its second end constituting a finger engageable tab that extends outwardly beyond said second ends of said spacer sheets with said insignia on said terable sheets being disposed inwardly of the exposed second ends thereof; and

d. an opaque sheet wrapper that extends transversely about said pack, said wrapper of such length as to prevent said tearable sheets being moved laterally relative to said spacer sheets but not of sufficient length as to prevent a selected one of said tabs being engaged by the fingers of a user to have a force exerted longitudinally thereon to tear the sheet of which it forms a part from said pack, with the torn sheet then being slid longitudinally from said wrapper to be compared with other tearable sheets torn from said pack to determine which of said torn sheets has a plurality of insignia thereon that has the highest game value.

2. An amusement device as defined in claim 1 in which said first means is a staple that extends through said spacer sheets and tearable sheets adjacent said first ends thereof.

3. An amusement device as defined in claim 2 in which each of said tearable sheets has a serrated transverse tear line therein that is intermediately located between said staple and said second end of said sheet.

4. An amusement device as defined in claim 2 in which said insignia are selected from insignia on a deck of playing cards.

5. An amusement device as defined in claim 4 in which said insignia are selected from different values of hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds.

Claims

1. An amusement device that includes: a. a plurality of rectangular opaque spacer sheets of a first length; b. a plurality of tearable rectangular sheets of the same width as said spacer sheets and of a second length greater than that of said spacer sheets, said tearable sheets each having a plurality of insignia thereon that are chosen at random and have a predetermined game value relative to insignia on other of said sheets, and each of said tearable sheets and said spacer sheets having first and second ends; c. first means that engage said spacer sheets and tearable sheets adjacent said first ends thereof to hold them in a pack in which said first ends are transversely aligned and said tearable sheets are alternately disposed between said spacer sheets, with each of said tearable sheets when so disposed in said pack having its second end constituting a finger engageable tab that extends outwardly beyond said second ends of said spacer sheets with said insignia on said terable sheets being disposed inwardly of the exposed second ends thereof; and d. an opaque sheet wrapper that extends transversely about said pack, said wrapper of such length as to prevent said tearable sheets being moved laterally relative to said spacer sheetS but not of sufficient length as to prevent a selected one of said tabs being engaged by the fingers of a user to have a force exerted longitudinally thereon to tear the sheet of which it forms a part from said pack, with the torn sheet then being slid longitudinally from said wrapper to be compared with other tearable sheets torn from said pack to determine which of said torn sheets has a plurality of insignia thereon that has the highest game value.
