SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 365,531, dated June 28,1887.

Be it known that-I, Josn EDUARDO MER- OADANTE, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, have invented anew and Improved Indicator, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved indicator for exhibiting advertis'ements by day and by night in public places. I

The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of various parts, and details and combinations of the same, as will befully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claim.

Reference is to be'had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification,

may be produced by a petroleum-lamp or by gas passing up the column A, through the arm B, and into the gas-pipe J, provided on its lower end with burners of any approved construction.

The sign Dis caused to revolve by the action of the wind pressing against the wings H so as to turn the sign on its pivotal points in the double arm B. The latter maybe secured directly to a house instead of to the column A. The plates F may be colored and provided with any suitable inscription.

It will be seen that an indicator constructed in this manner is very attractive on account of the revolving motion of the sign D, and of the colored advertising-plates F, held in the casing E and illuminated at night by thelight I in the interior of the casing E.
