The posting board being slidable on adjustable tracks.

The present invention is directed to an improved file cabinet and more particularly to an improved file cabinet which is adapted to have a number of file cards and card trays stored therein.

Heretofore, numerous file cabinets have been in use. However, such cabinets have been stationary and the height of the cabinet has been set to a predetermined position so that such file cabinets have not been versatile enough for either sitting or standing positions.

In addition, such prior cabinets do not have provision for easy expansion from single units to multiple modular type operation. Furthermore, the work shelves on these prior cabinets are not adjustable.

The present invention overcomes the above deficiencies and has for one of its objects the provision of a completely versatile and adjustable card file cabinet.

Another object is the provision of an improved file cabinet which is adjustable in size and height.

Another object of the present invention is the provision of an improved file cabinet which has a posting board which is adjustable.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved card file cabinet which permits easy assembly of the parts.

Other and further objects of the invention will be obvious upon an understanding of the illustrative embodiment about to be described, or will be indicated in the appended claims, and various advantages not referred to herein will occur to one skilled in the art upon employment of the invention in practice.

A preferred embodiment of the invention has been chosen for purposes of illustration and description and is shown in the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification, wherein:

Referring to the drawings, the file cabinet '1 of the present invention comprises a magazine assembly 2 and a leg assemby 3 mounted on each side thereof. The magazine assembly 2 comprises a bottom pan 4, front and

Each leg assembly 3 comprises a lower bridge assembly 10 having leg member 11 telescopically mounted therewithin. Opening 16 and pin 17 permit the leg assembly to. be adjusted vertically and to be locked into vertical position. j

A lower finished end panel 20 has a plurality of'snap fingers 21 extending therefrom adapted to be pressed into the lower bridge assembly 10 of each leg assembly.

Telescopically insertable into the upstanding arms 18 of the lower bridge assembly is an upper bridge assembly 22 having downwardly extending arms 23 insertable in the arms 18. An upper finished end panel 24 having spring fastening fingers 25 extending therefrom is provided to be snapped into each upper bridge assembly 22 to complete the assembly. Casters 26 or leg levelers 27 may be provided below the leg assembly, as may be desired.

A roll'top assembly 30 having handles 31 and a lock 32 is. adapted to be mounted within the channels 33 formed in the leg assembly 10 and is provided with the usual roll down top 34 adapted to be moved in tracks 35.

The bottom pan 4 is adapted to have card trays 40 mounted therein. Each card tray 40 may be in usual form having a bottom wall 41, side walls 42, front and rear walls 43 and 44 and an adjustable follower plate 45 to keep cards in an upright position. Any number of these card trays 40 can be inserted in the bottom pan 4.

5 and 6 have a series of vertical slots 50 therein which are adapted to receive bolts 51 for

52 and 53 therein in a vertically adjustable position. The lower track 52 has a mountable flange 54 and a circular track rod 55 on support bar 56 with end stops 57. A wheel aligning wall 58 is also provided adjacent the circular rod 55.

The upper track assembly 53 comprises a mountable flange 60 and a one piece dual track member 61 on sup port bar 62. The dual track member 61 has inner circular track rod 63 to accommodate the wheels of a carriage assembly and spaced outwardly therefrom by aligning wall 65 is a straight track 64 for accommodating the wheels of a posting board or work table.

Each tray carriage 70 has wheels 71 and is adapted to ride on the upper and/ or lower

carriage track rods

63 and 58 depending on whether the carriages are on the upper or lower track assemblies. The carriages 70 comprise a frame 72 which may have removable bottom plates 73 mounted therein. The carriages 70 are adapted to hold the card tray 40 and, as will be appreciated, can be moved across the entire magazine assembly on the tracks.

A work table or posting board is adapted to slidably move across the cabinet over the tray carriages and card trays and comprises a writing board 81 and a wheel carriages 82 depending therefrom. Each wheel carriage assembly 82 comprises a lower leg assembly 83 having slots 84 and wheel bore 85 with wheels 86 and an upper leg assembly 87 having bolts 88 extending into slots 84 to provide vertical adjustment of the board 81.

If it is desired to join more than one magazine assemblies 2 together, it is merely necessary to remove one set of upper and

20 and 24 and to join a second magazine into the leg assembly 3 from the other side. End caps 90 may be inserted into the upper legs 19 of the lower bridge assembly 10 to finish off the construction.

It will be noted that the carriages 70 can have wheel assemblies 72 of different heights so that it is possible for the carriages with the taller wheel assemblies to straddle and move over card trays for carriages having the smaller wheel assemblies. Furthermore, the width of the carriages may be adjusted so that a particular carriage can accom modate'two or more card trays, as may be desired.

It will thus be seen that the present invention provides a completely versatile card file cabinet, which is adjustable in size and height and having a posting board which is adjustable.

As various changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts herein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and without sacrificing any of its advantages, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

.1. A file cabinet comprising a magazine unit, support leg assembly means depending from said magazine unit, said support leg assembly means being vertically adjustable, saidmagazine unit being adapted to support card trays on diiferent levels, the card tray on at least one of said levels being movable-parallel and relative to card tray on the other of said levels, a posting board mounted for sliding movement over said card tray, said posting board being adjustable vertically independently of the vertical adjustment of the support leg assembly means.

2. A file cabinet as claimed in claim 1 wherein said leg 3. A file cabinet as claimed in claim 2 wherein said bridge members have means to permit'another'magam'ne to be mounted on the other side thereof.

4. A file cabinet as claimed in claim 3 wherein tray carriages are provided for supporting said card tray and are adapted to be mounted on said track means.

5. A file cabinet as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least one of said track means is a'dual track to permit the posting board and a carriage to be mounted thereon.

6. A file cabinet as claimed in claim 1, wherein trac means are provided for the movable card tray.
