INVENTOR. CLARENCE NMI EAKMAN BATHTUB SHOWER SPLASH PLATE BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a bathtub shower splash plate and more particularly to a bathtub shower splash plate having a containing lip thereon and a means for holding the shower curtain in place during operation.
According to the invention, a bathtub shower splash plate is provided which is generally L-shaped having a long leg extending upwardly from an outside corner of the bathtub in proximity to the shower nozzle and a shorter leg extending along the outside edge of the bathtub. A lip is provided along the outer periphery of the splash plate for containing any splashing water therein and allowing it to run back into the tub. A retaining rod is preferably rotatably attached to the inside bottom corner of the splash plate with a securing bracket at the top of the inside of the splash plate for conveniently rotating the rod onto the outside edge of the bathtub and thereby securing the shower curtain underneath the rod during use.
An object of the present invention is the provision of an improved bathtub shower splash plate.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an improved bathtub shower splash plate with a shower curtain restraining feature.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an improved bathtub shower splash plate which is inexpensive to manufacture and extremely simple to install.
Other objects and many of the attendant advantages of this invention will be readily appreciated as the same becomes better understood by reference to the following detailed description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the FIGS. thereof and wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the preferred embodiment of the invention in situ;
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the embodiment of FIG. 1 showing a restraining bar in proximity thereto; and
FIG. 3 is an end elevational view showing the restraining bar of FIGS. 1 and 2 in use.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Referring to FIG. I, a bathtub shower splash plate is shown at 11 attached to a wall 13 in which is mounted the plumbing hardware of bathtub 14. L-shaped splash plate 11 has a long leg 16 mounted against wall 13 and a short leg 17 carried by bathtub l4. Retaining rod 19 is rotatably attached at 26 (FIG. 2) to bracket 11 and lies flat on an outside edge of bathtub 14. Telescopic section 21 of rod 19 extends from rod 19 in the position shown. Dotted lines 23 show the position of rod 19 when not in use. Shower curtain rod 18 is shown disposed over bracket 11 and bathtub 14.
Referring to FIG. 2, L-shaped splash plate 11 is shown having a bracket 27 for carrying rod 21 in a stored position. Rod 21 terminates in an eye 24 for cooperation with an axle member 26. Extension 28 of L-shaped splash plate 11 is adapted for being attached to a wall as shown in FIG. 1, and extension 29 is adapted for attachment to the edge of a bathtub as shown in FIG. 1. A lip 31 is provided on the outside periphery of L shaped splash late 11 to further conam any splashing water. The op surface of extension 29 is inclined away from the bathtub for drainage thereof.
Referring to FIG. 3, shower curtain rod 18 is shown carrying a shower curtain 32 which is restrained on bathtub 14 by telescoping rod 19 and extension 21. Referring'now to all of the FIGS., it can be seen that through the unique shape of L-shaped bracket 11, i.e., the lip 31 together with inclined surface 29, any water attempting to splash out of the tub area around the edge of the shower curtain would be retained and splashed back through splash plate 11. It can also be seen that through the use of restraining rod 19 and telescoping section 21, the shower curtain is held in place during operation and the rod is conveniently stored out of sight when the shower is not in use.
It should be understood of course that the foregoing disclosure relates to only a preferred embodiment of the invention and that it is intended to cover all changes and modifications of the example of the invention herein chosen for the purposes of the disclosure which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.
The invention claimed is:
l. A bathtub shower splash plate comprising:
an L-shaped piece of non-water-soluble material having a long leg and a short leg, said long leg adapted for being attached to a surface adjacent a bathtub and said short leg adapted for being attached to an outside edge of a bathtub;
a lip extending along the outer periphery of the splash plate for containing any splashing water therein and allowing it to run back into a bathtub; and
a top surface of said short leg being inclined away from any bathtub attached thereto.
2. The bathtub shower splash plate of claim 1 and further including:
a clamping rod rotatably attached to said L-shaped piece of non-water-soluble material and dimensioned for retaining a shower curtain on the outside edge of an installed bathtub.

Claims (2)

1. A bathtub shower splash plate comprising: an L-shaped piece of non-water-soluble material having a long leg and a short leg, said long leg adapted for being attached to a surface adjacent a bathtub and said short leg adapted for being attached to an outside edge of a bathtub; a lip extending along the outer periphery of the splash plate for containing any splashing water therein and allowing it to run back into a bathtub; and a top surface of said short leg being inclined away from any bathtub attached thereto.
2. The bathtub shower splash plate of claim 1 and further including: a clamping rod rotatably attached to said L-shaped piece of non-water-soluble material and dimensioned for retaining a shower curtain on the outside edge of an installed bathtub.
