Abstract

A battery operated safety light for a swimming pool. This device is a circular and floatable disc-like structure having on its interior a plurality of batteries which are enclosed in a watertight compartment thereof. A bulb extends from a reflector at the lower portion of the device within a water-proof globe so as to illuminate the water within the pool at night.

This device is a circular and floatable disc-like structure having on its interior a plurality of batteries which are enclosed in a watertight compartment thereof. A bulb extends from a reflector at the lower portion of the device within a water-proof globe so as to illuminate the water within the pool at night.

v. IG 3 20 (r /4 25/ I/ M A? Z I INVENTORS ROLD SELLERS 1 FLOATING LIGHT FOR SWIMMING POOLS This invention relates to battery operated lights, and more particularly to a floating light for swimming pools.

It is therefore the primary purpose of this invention to provide a floating light which will be used at night to illuminate a swimming pool, particularly for keeping track of children within the pool at night.

Another object of this invention is to provide a floating light which will be made of plastic and will have a waterproof cover over the batteries on the interior of the device and a ring portion extending from the body structure of the device will permit mooring the device, or a weight may be attached to the line secured to the ring stationary in one particular location within the pool.

A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the type described which will be decorative in appearance having an ornamental flower on on its top surface and the bottom portion will have reflector means for reflecting the light produced by the bulb therein the globe portion of the device.

Other objects of the present invention are to provide a floating light for swimming pools which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.

These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:

FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along the line 22 of FIG. 1; and

FIG. 3 is a side view of the device shown in use.

According to this invention, a floating light is shown to include a circular and buoyant plastic body 11. A flower 12 of plastic material is fixedly secured to a cover 13 which is removably mounted on top of the body 11. The flower 12 has a central raised portion 14 which serves as a knob means for removing the cover 13 from the body 11 when access must be made to the plurality of batteries 15 on the interior of the body 11. It is to be noted, as shown in the drawing, that the body II has a central opening 23 on its top to provide access to a central recess 24 in which the batteries are contained. The central opening has a shoulder 25 along an intermediate portion thereof, so a radially outward extending flange 26 formed around the cover can be seated there against when the cover is snap fitted into the opening. The flower portion that serves as a knob is integral with a vertical shaft 27 that extends downward through a central opening 28 through the cover, and the downward protruding end of the shaft is formed with an enlarged head 29 so as to secure the shaft to the cover.

A globe 16 is threadibly carried within the neck portion 17 on the underside of body 11, the globe l6 serving to cover the bulb 18 which is carried within the center of a reflector l9 fixedly secured within the underside of the body 11 and positioned around a downward extending lamp bulb socket 30.

An eye 20 extends from the upper surface of body 11 and provides a means of securing a line 21 which may be used to moor device 10 within the water 22.

It shall be noted that a weight may be attached to the line 21 so that it may extend downward within the water 22 to thus render device 10 stationary within the water 22.

What I claim is:

l. A floating light for a swimming pool, comprising, a buoyant plastic and circularly configurated body member having a recess and a central opening in the upper surface providing access to the recess, a plurality of batteries and a downwardly extending socket carried within the recess providing, respectively, current and support for a bulb member, a removable and water tight cover carried by said body and comprising a flange ceiling said central opening with flower means serving as knob means for said cover and decoration means for the upper portion of said body, a clear plastic dome globe member carried by said body providing protection means for a bulb in said socket, and also serving as waterproof means for the bulb in the socket, a downardly directed reflector carried by said body providing a means for reflecting light from the bulb in said socket into a pool when the body is floating thereon, wherein said cover of said body member is snappibly engaged in an opening in one side of said body member and said opening including shoulder means for receiving a flange of said cover, said flower portion ornamenting said cover being secured thereto by shaft means within a central opening of said cover.

2. The combination according to claim 1 wherein an eye member is mounted on the body, one end of a line being secured to the eye, the line being used to anchor the body in an area of the pool.

Claims

1. A floating light for a swimming pool, comprising, a buoyant plastic and circularly configurated body member having a recess and a central opening in the upper surface providing access to the recess, a plurality of batteries and a downwardly extending socket carried within the recess providing, respectively, current and support for a bulb member, a removable and water tight cover carried by said body and comprising a flange ceiling said central opening with flower means serving as knob means for said cover and decoration means for the upper portion of said body, a clear plastic dome globe member carried by said body providing protection means for a bulb in said socket, and also serving as waterproof means for the bulb in the socket, a downardly directed reflector carried by said body providing a means for reflecting light from the bulb in said socket into a pool when the body is floating thereon, wherein said cover of said body member is snappibly engaged in an opening in one side of said body member and said opening including shoulder means for receiving a flange of said cover, said flower portion ornamenting said cover being secured thereto by shaft means within a central opening of said cover.
