Abstract

A holder device primarily designed to be worn on the human body and configured to retain objects placed across the wearer''s body. The device comprises a shoulder plate and a plurality of straps disposed about the waist and upper portion of the wearer''s body. The plate is slidingly connected to one of the straps so as to permit adjustment of the plate. The remaining straps of the device may be securely fastened about the body, and a belt hook is movably attached to the strap whereby the device may also be fastened to the wearer''s belt.

CABLE HOLDER BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention This invention relates to an adjustable holder device designed to be worn on the body and configured to retain or support objects in predetermined locations thereon.

2. Description of the Prior Art Various types of strap retainers and shoulder pads are well known in the art. These type devices have been particularly popular as strap retainers for rifle slings and as shoulder protectors to be interposed between the strap of a brassiere or other garment and and a wearer's shoulder to protect the shoulder from the strap. However. prior art devices have proved to be generally unsatisfactory either because they are not stiff enough to distribute the pressure of a heavilyloaded strap without sagging at the point of strap contact, or because they are not soft enough to provide a comfortable fit. Prior art devices, because of their construction, do not solve the problem of comfort or efficient accomplishment of retaining or supporting various type devices in predetermined relation on the human body.

One such prior art device, U. S. Pat. No. 3,052,886, discloses a retainer for a gun sling comprising an attaching piece adapted to be secured to the shoulder portion of a garment. The retainer further includes a stop member fixed to the top surface of the attaching piece for engagement by the outer edge of the sling strap. The retainer is permanently attached to the wearer's garment. It is not adjustable to fit the individual wearer, nor is it suitable for use other than on the wearers shoulder. Similarly, U. S. Pat. No. 2,633,573 disclosed a shoulder strap shield for protecting the shoulder from creasing or cutting under a supporting strap. The shield is designed specifically for protecting the wearers shoulder, and it is not adjustable. Other prior art devices are known, but none of these disclose the specific structural elements embodied in the present invention.

Furthermore, prior art devices do not adequately solve the problems and dangers encountered by users of welders torches, electric power tools, hedge clippers, pneumatic tools and similar devices requiring an external power source. It is obvious that users of such devices must exercise caution to avoid tangling and damaging the lines carrying power or fuel from the source to the device being used. Such caution necessarily decreases the user's productivity, without a corresponding material increase in his safety.

Accordingly, it is obvious that there is a need for a holder device for retaining objects placed across the wearers body, such device being constructed so that it may be adjusted to fit an individual wearer and to be used in a variety of locations on the wearer's body.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION the plate top. The open end of the hook is directed in- 2 wardly toward the head or neck of the wearer. The shoulder plate may be constructed from any suitable material contoured in a substantially elongated U- shape to fit the top of the shoulder of the wearer. The shoulder plate further includes a resilient padding material bonded to the underneath side thereof to protect the wearers body against the weight of the item held by the cable hook. The strap guide comprises a bracket dimensioned and configured to correspondto the strap means. The bracket further includes a threaded aperture formed in the top thereof to have a screw inserted therein to fixedly hold the strap means within the strap guide. The cable hook comprises a substantially V- .shaped member mounted on the plate in predetermined position thereto so as to support and retain various objects positioned in cooperative relation to the wearers body.

The strap means comprises at least one webbed belt including a buckle attached to one end thereof. The length of the belt may be adjusted to fit around various portions of the wearer's body. The strap means is movably attached to the retaining means by inserting one .end of the belt through the strap guide.

The attachment means of the device comprises a substantially N-shaped clip removably attachable to the strap means. Accordingly, the entire device may be attached to an article of clothing, such as a belt, worn by the user of the device.

To use the holder device, the wearer firstinserts the strap means through the strap guide. The user next places the. retaining means against that portion of his body where the device will be worn and buckles the strap means around his body. He then inserts and tightens the screw provided for the threaded aperture formed in the'strap guide to fixedly hold the strap means in the strap guide. In order to more securely attach the device to his person, the wearer fastens the clip attached to the strap means to an article of his clothing, such as his belt.

Thus, the device of the present invention materially increases the productivity and safety of the user by providing an adjustable, lightweight means .to retain objects placed across the wearers body so that his arms and hands are free. The utility of the subject device represents an advance over the prior art in that it is designed and constructed for use at a variety of locations on the wearers body.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide an adjustable, lightweight device for retaining objects placed across the wearer's body so that his arms and hands are free.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a holder device which may be worn in a variety of locations on the wearers body.

This invention accordingly comprises an article of manufacture possessing the features, properties and the relation of elements which will be exemplified in the article hereinafter described, and the scope of the invention will be indicated in the claims.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION This invention relates to a holder device generally indicated as 10 in FIG. 1 which is designed to retain objects supported on the body of a person on which the device is mounted. The'device is designed so that it may be worn at a variety of positions shown in FIG. I and as will be explained in detail hereinafter.

The holder comprises retaining means, including a one of the main features of this invention is that the device is so constructed as to allow its use at a variety of positions on the wearers body. As best shown in FIG. 1, the device is particularly adaptable for wearing on the users shoulder to retain objects such as a welders fuel line 30, while leaving the user's arms and hands free. It should be obvious that the device would just as easily be worn adjacent other parts of the body.

It will thus be seen that the objects made apparent from the preceding description are efficiently attained. and since certain changes may be made in the above construction without departing from the scope of the invention. it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific feais'f xedly attached, as by welding or like connection means, to surface 17 of shoulder plate 12. Strap guide 14 further includes a threaded aperture (not shown) formed in bracket 15 whereby screw 20 may be inserted to fixedly hold strap means 23 in position between strap guide 14 and shoulder plate 12. Cable hook 16 comprises a substantially V-shaped member mounted at one end of surface 17 of shoulder plate 12 with the open end thereof facing inwardly as shown or represented in FIG. 1.

Strap means 23 comprises at least one belt 22 and at least one buckle 24 attached to fit around the body of the wearer. Belt 22 is movably attached to the retaining means by inserting end 26 of belt 22 through bracket 15 of strap guide 14. As previously discussed, belt 22 may be secured within strap guide 14 by tightening screw 20.

The attachment means of the device comprises a substantially N-shaped clip 28 which may be slidably attached to belt 22, whereby the device may be attached to an article of clothing worn by the user, as best seen in FIG. 1.

What is claimed is:

l. A holder device for retaining and supporting objects placed across the wearers body, said device comprising: retaining means including a shoulder plate, a strap guide comprising a bracket of predetermined size andshape attached to said shoulder plate and a cable hook comprising a substantially V-shaped member attached to said shoulder plate with the open end of said V-shaped member oriented toward said strap guide; strap means including at least one belt attachable to said retaining means by passing said belt through said bracket, said belt including a buckle attached to one end thereof whereby the length of said belt may be adjusted to fit the wearer; and attachment means comprising a substantially N-shaped clip slidably attachable to said belt in engaging relation to the wearers clothing whereby said device may be further secured to the wearer, said strap guide further including means comprising an aperture formed in said bracket and a screwthreaded fastener mounted therein in abutting relation to said strap means whereby said strap means may be 1 fixedly held within said strap guide.

2. A device as in claim 1 wherein said shoulder plate is contoured to fit the body of a wearer and includes a resilient padding material bonded to the undersurface thereof.

Claims (2)

1. A holder device for retaining and supporting objects placed across the wearer''s body, said device comprising: retaining means including a shoulder plate, a strap guide comprising a bracket of predetermined size and shape attached to said shoulder plate and a cable hook comprising a substantially V-shaped member attached to said shoulder plate with the open end of said V-shaped member oriented toward said strap guide; strap means including at least one belt attachable to said retaining means by passing said belt through said bracket, said belt including a buckle attached to one end thereof whereby the length of said belt may be adjusted to fit the wearer; and attachment means comprising a substantially N-shaped clip slidably attachable to said belt in engaging relation to The wearer''s clothing whereby said device may be further secured to the wearer, said strap guide further including means comprising an aperture formed in said bracket and a screw-threaded fastener mounted therein in abutting relation to said strap means whereby said strap means may be fixedly held within said strap guide.

2. A device as in claim 1 wherein said shoulder plate is contoured to fit the body of a wearer and includes a resilient padding material bonded to the undersurface thereof.
