Abstract

A disposable diaper formed of an outer sheet of water-proof material, an inner absorbent filling and an inner lining of water-permeable material is provided at each side adjacent one end with tapes of adhesive material for securing the diaper around the body of the infant when the edges of the other end are brought adjacent the end having the tapes. These tapes are double-stick tapes, that is, they are provided with adhesive on both faces, so that, when the covering layer is removed on the outer side of the tape, the baby''s T-shirt can be pressed against this tab and adhered thereto so as to hold down the T-shirt and prevent it from riding up on the infant''s body.

3 Claims, 4 Drawing Figures DISPOSABLE DIAPER WITH T-SI-IIRT HOLDING MEANS BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The invention relates to a disposable diaper with means for securing them on an infant and for holding down a T-shirt.

2. The Prior Art Various disposable diapers are known which are provided with means for securing the diaper around the waist of the child other than by pins or similar holding means. However, in all of these, so far as is known, the T-shirt must be secured by pins, buttons or the like in order to prevent it from riding up when the diaper is being worn.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides an arrangement by which a disposable diaper is provided with means for holding down the T-Shirt without the use of any pins, thus making'the child more comfortable and eliminating the possibility of its being stuck by a pin if the pin accidentally opens or during the application to the body.

According to the invention, this is accomplished by using at one end of the diaper adjacent both edges thereof tapes which have adhesive material on both sides thereof, the adhesive on one side of the tape being used to attach the tape to the two edges at the other end of the diaper when it is placed around the body of the infant, and the adhesive on the other sides of the tape being used to hold down the T-shirt which is pulled down over the diaper.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring to the drawings, the diaper is formed of a sheet 2 of absorbent material acting as a filler covered on one side by a sheet 4 of water-permeable material forming the inside face of the diaper and an outer sheet 6 of water-proof or water-impermeable material. The sheet 6 has its side edge portions 8 turned over around the edges of the sheet 4, and secured at least over a part of their area (at 10) to the sheet 4, thus enclosing the filler material within the cover layers.

The diaper, as indicated in FIG. 2, may have the central portions thereof folded over and secured together as at 12, so that the central portion of the diaper is narrower than the ends, thus providing more comfort in passing through the crotch of the child. Diapers such as have been described above are in themselves well known.

According to the present invention, there are provided at one end of the diaper and adjacent each edge thereof securing means shown in detail in FIGS. 3 and .secured in place by forming them of suitable plastic which, in combination with the backing layer 6, can be permanently secured to the backing layer by heat and pressure.

On the outer face of the tape holder 16 is a doublestick tape 18, that is, a tape having pressure sensitive adhesive on both its faces. This is preferably also secured permanently in the area 20, that is, on the outside of the diaper, to the tape holder 16, for example again by heat treatment and pressure, while the portion extending around the edge of the diaper and the portion on the inner side, are merely adhesively and peelably secured on the tape holder 16.

On the outside of the double-stick adhesive tape (the exposed face) is a protective layer formed of two

parts

22 and 24, separated at 26. Again the material, particularly the material of the section 24, is peelably secured on the outer face of the double-stick tape.

FIG. 4 shows the water-permeable layers 4, the fillers 2 and the water-proof backing 6. The end of the diaper not provided with the tabs is the lower part in FIG. 4. The double-stick tape 20 has been peeled away from the face of the tape holder and pressed down on the outside of the backing layer 6 of the other end of the diaper to secure the diaper around the waist.

The protective covering 22 prevents other articles from sticking to the portion of the tape which is not used for securing the T-shirt.

The tape covered portion 24 is now peeled off, and the T-shirt is pressed against it so that the T-shirt or other garment is held down at both sides of the childs waist.

While the tapes are shown at the same end of the diaper, which is most convenient for manufacture and ap plication, this is not essential.

I claim:

1. A diaper comprising a body of flexible material for folding through the crotch and securing around the waist of an infant, a means for securing the side edges of the inside body-engaging face of the diaper together and providing a means for holding down a shirt-like garment in position on the body comprising having mounted on each side edge adjacent one end thereof a tape having pressure-sensitive adhesive on both faces thereof, and a removable cover layer on the exposed face of the tape on the inside of the diaper and a second cover layer on the outside exposed face of said tape, said second cover layer comprising two portions defined by a separation means adjacent the outer end of said tape, the portion of the second cover layer between said separation means and the outer end being removable for selectively exposing that portion of the shirt-like body garment so that the tape simultaneously secures said diaper inside edge faces together and said garment to the diaper.

2. A diaper as claimed in claim 1, in which the tape extends around the edge of the diaper and has a portion on the outside of the diaper permanently secured thereto.

3. A diaper as claimed in claim 1, having a tape holder of plastic material extending around the edge of the diaper and permanently secured thereto, said tape having a portion on the outside of the diaper permanently connected to the tape holder and a portion on the inside of the diaper peelably engaging the tape holder.
