Abstract

A novel and inexpensive framing for small pictures; the device consisting of flat strips made of any suitable material such as cardboard plastic or the like and which can be cut to a desired size and secured upon the picture front edge areas by means of glue, the front side of the strips being various decorated so to resemble wood, carving or other pleasing ornamentation such as is used in picture framing generally.

2 Claims, 6 Drawing Figures BORDER FRAME FOR PICTURES This invention relates generally to decorative framing of pictures A principle object is to provide a novelty frame for pictures, photographs and the like so that they have a finished appearance for display on a wall or desk.

Another object is to provide a novelty frame which can be quickly and easily applied without need of any special skills or without need of any tools of significance.

Yet another object is to provide easy borders which is eliminate the need of expensive framing to give a decorative border around a display picture or photograph.

Other objects are to provide easy borders which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.

These and other objects will be readilyevident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the invention being assembled so to form an inexpensive but decorative frame around a picture.

F IG. 2 is a perspective view of a modified design of the invention shown with frame completed and ready to display the picture, the frame being air inflatable so to give the picutre a deeper box relief.

FIG. 3 is a detail thereof shown prior to the frame inflation.

FIG. 4 is a cross sectional view on line 44 of FIG. 3, and showing in dotted lines the frame inflated.

FIG. 5 is a front detail view of a simple form of the invention.

FIG. 6 is an end view thereof.

Reference is now made to the drawing in detail, and more particularly to FIG. 1 thereof, at this time wherein there is an easy border 10 according to the present invention wherein the same is comprised of a set or flat strips 11 made of any material such as cardboard, cloth, wood, plastic, leather, rubber, glass or metal, and which may be readily cut (as indicated) so that they may be mitered and cut to a length so to suit a panel 12 having a picture 13, photograph, painting,

collage or any other display mounted thereupon such as rare postage stamps, pressed flowers or the like. The panel may comprise likewise any stiff or flexible material such as cardboard, wood, canvas or the like.

The front side of the strips may be attractively decorated so to resemble a wood grain, or any other decorativness such as is utilized in conventional framing for a pleasing appearance.

After being cut to size, the strips are then secured upon the border area of the panel so that an attractive frame results.

In FIGS. 5 and 6, a simple form of the invention comprises a cardboard inch wide with pull away tape I4 on its rear to expose adhesive 15 already applied for easy attachment. The front side of the strip I6 has attractive pattern 17.

In FIGS. 2, 3 and 4 another modified design of the invention 18 is retailed flat as shown in FIG. 4. It includes a thick rear cardboard 19 having a glossy thin paper 20 adhered to its front side and having a picture 21 on it. The edge area around the picture has a design of a frame printed on it as shown at 22. A perforated tear line 23 is between the printed frame 22 and picture 21 can be torn by running a finger nail or knife along it so to separate the frame area from the picture. Under the frame area, a collapsed thin plastic tube 24 is fitted in a notch 25 formed around the cardboard 19. A cheap air valve 26 on the rear of cardboard 19 then can be blown into so to inflate the tube so it lifts as shown by dotted lines in FIG. 3 and as shown in FIG. 2 so to form an inexpensive deep or thick frame.

Thus another modified design has been provided.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as is defined by the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A picture framing device for conveniently mounting and framing a picture with an inexpensive decorative border comprising a rigid rear base in combination with a picture frame border mounted peripherally on the front face of said base encompassing a picture on said base, said border being secured to said base by means whereby said border is movable from one position in planar alignment with said picture to other positions projecting beyond the picture surface, wherein said means comprises an inflatable tube mounted on said base, said border being secured to the outer surface of said tube, wherein the base includes a peripheral recess to receive said tube and said border is in planar alignment with the picture when the tube is minimally inflated.

2. A device as in claim 1, wherein said tube is in communication with a valve mounted on the rear of said base.

Claims (2)

1. A picture framing device for conveniently mounting and framing a picture with an inexpensive decorative border comprising a rigid rear base in combination with a picture frame border mounted peripherally on the front face of said base encompassing a picture on said base, said border being secured to said base by means whereby said border is movable from one position in planar alignment with said picture to other positions projecting beyond the picture surface, wherein said means comprises an inflatable tube mounted on said base, said border being secured to the outer surface of said tube, wherein the base includes a peripheral recess to receive said tube and said border is in planar alignment with the picture when the tube is minimally inflated.
