Abstract

Disclosed is ventilated footwear made up of a sole on which is secured a false sole holding front and back foot supports and an upper part covering the foot and the leg, above or below the knee. Ventilation of the foot and leg is obtained by making the upper section of knitted or crocheted. This section is held onto the leg by an elastically adjustable material secured into its top end.

VENTILATED BOOT BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention This invention is concerned with novel footwear characterized by a ventilated upper part which is knitted or crocheted to give such ventilation and to provide various ornamental designs.

The footwear of the invention is of the half boot or boottype and gives ample support to the wearers legs.

2. State of the Art I-Ieretofore footwear of this type has been constructed of various materials such as leather, suede and plastic. To my knowledge, however, boots with knitted or crocheted leg-enclosing sections have not been made.

The principal object of this invention is to provide an article of this character which combines simplicity, eye appeal and durability in a high degree, together with inexpensiveness of construction.

Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.

In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention, wherein like reference character identify the same or like parts:

FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of a boot embodying the features of the invention;

FIG. 2 is an exploded view of same;

FIG. 3 is a detailed view of 3-3 of FIG. 1 showing attachment to the false sole; and

FIG. 4 is an exploded view in perspective of the foot supporting elements of the boot.

With reference to the drawing, there is shown and illustrated a boot constructed in accordance with the principles of the invention and designated generally by reference character 10. There is shown in the drawing a leg and foot encasing member 12 with a plurality of ventilating openings 14. Preferably, this member is crocheted as this makes it possible to obtain designs of practically unlimited variety. However, the member may be knitted on standard forms of knitting machines adapted to make tubular blanks with openings or in which it is possible to fashion a heel portion, although the heel may be otherwise fonned as found desirable.

In the example shown in FIG. 1, member 12 is formed with an open portion 16 in the front thereof at the beginning of the leg portion. A plurality of fasteners 18 are provided across the portion 16 to make the leg-encasing portion fit on the leg. The bottom of member 12 is secured to false plastic or rubber sole 20 by gluing or sewing and to which are already assembled front and back supports 22 and 24 by means of glue or adhesive cement 26. As shown on FIGS. 2 and 4, the previously made assembly is then secured to leather, rubber or other sole-heel member 28 by gluing. These supports are of leather or plastic.

FIG. 3 shows an embodiment of the invention wherein the foot encasing part of member 12 does not extend across the entire sole of the foot.

The upper part of member 12 has sewn or otherwise secured into it an adjustable elastic material or garter member 30, to hold the boot up. However, this can be omitted where the nature of the fibers used to make member 12 permits as in the case of the use of stretch fibers such as those marketed under the trade marked names of Spandex, Lycra and the like.

As above stated, the member 12 can be knitted or crocheted with the latter technique lending itself to forming of more varied, multi-colored and intricate designs. The following are the crocheting instructions for making the member 12 shown in FIG. 1 with a size 6 aluminum crochet hook. The instructions should be read in the context of the following abbreviations:

The boot of the invention has been thoroughly tested in actual use conditions and found to be completely successful for the accomplishment of the above stated objects of the invention.

It will thus be seen that there is provided an article in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. Footwear comprising, in combination, a sole-heel member; a false sole secured on top of said sole-heel member; front and back foot support members secured on top of said false sole and a ventilated foot and leg encasing member secured about the periphery of said false sole and covering said front and back support members; said foot and leg encasing member having a plurality of spaced openings therein and being formed by crocheting.

2. The footwear of claim 1 having a garter band in the upper part of said foot and leg encasing member.

3. The footwear of claim 1, wherein said foot and leg encasing member has an elongated hole in the front thereof and fasteners across said hole.

4. The footwear of claim 1 wherein said foot and leg encasing member is made of stretch fibers.
