UNITED STATES v PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK l. HART, OF NEY YORK, Y.
TICKET-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 415,457, dated November 19, 1889.
Application filed July 5, 1889- Serial No. 316,492. (No model.) i
To all 10700711, 'it 17mg/ concern? Be it known that I, FRANK l. HART, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Ticket-Case, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improvement in ticket-cases, and has for its object to provide a simple convenient receptacle or case capable of being conveniently carried in the pocket, and especially adapted to contain street-car, ferry, stage, and other tickets.
A further object of the invention is to provide a means whereby when the case is filled the uppermost ticket may be readily and eX- peditiously withdrawn from the case when desired for use.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will ybe hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the case with the bottom or cover thrown open to admit of the introduction of the tickets into the body of the case. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal scction through the case with the cover closed. view of the case; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a slightlymodified form of the case, in which the tickets are introduced at one side thereof.
The device consists, practically, of two sections-namely, tbody-section 10 and a coversection 11. rPhe body-section 10 is preferably made in the form of a rectangular box having an open bottom and a central (preferably rectangular) opening 12 produced in the top. The body-section is further provided at one end with a transverse slot 13 of sufficient width to readily admit of a ticket passing through, and the said slot is located close to the top, as best shown in Figs. 1 and 4, in both of which figures the case is illustrated as inverted.
The cover-section 11 consists, ordinarily, of a flanged plate of suiticientlength and breadth to cover the open bottom of the body, and the said cover may be hinged to one end or side Fig. et is an end of the box and held in a closed position by any approved form of clasp; or the cover may be made to lift entirely from the box, being held in connection therewith by frictional contact, the flanges passing either in engagement with the inner or outer faces of the body-section.
To the inner face of the cover 11, at or near one end of the same, one extremity of a spring 14: is rigidly secured, which spring is curved upward, whereby a space is made to intervene the free end of the spring and the inner face of the cover, and the upper portion of the said spring is fiattened to pass beneath the opening 12 in the top of the bodyesection parallel with the said body section. The spring is made of such length that the free end will closely approach the end slot 13 of the body, the upperface otsaid spring being essentially in a plane with the lower edge of the said slot.
In operation when the cover is removed the tickets are placed in the body-section, the face of one ticket being exposed by reason of the opening 12. Vhen a sufficient number of tickets have been inserted in the bodysection, the cover is secured to place, whereupon the spring 14, contacting with the under ticket, presses the entire mass upward in contact with the top of the case, whereby as one ticket is removed by being slid outward through the slot 13 another ticket is made to immediately take its place. The tickets are withdrawn by placing the finger in Contact with the exposed surface of the upper ticket and sliding the same in the direction of the end slot 13.
In the modiiication illustrated in Fig. t the tickets are introduced in the side. The construction is identical with that shown in Fig. 1, except that the top and bottom of the case are rigidly secured to the end pieces and one side piece, the other side piece being made removable, and preferably made to slide upon the top and bottom sections of the case, either upon the outer or inner sides of the latter.
Ilavin g thus described my invention, l claim as new an d desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an improved article of n'laufacture, a ticket-,case comprising a body-section 10', having fixed ends, provided in its top with a slot 12 and a slit 12% iu the top part of one of its IOO fixed ei1ds,aud a spring 14, secured to the bottom of the body to press the tickets .against the slotted top, one wall of the body The combination, with the body lO, having; the slot l2 in its top and the sltlS in one end7 of the hinged lid 1l, adapted to be swung upwardly away from the body, and the spring 14, secured at one end to the under face of the lid and of a greater width than the slot 12, substantially as set forth.
