My invention relates to button-fastenings in which the button is held or secured to a garment by a tape, the ends of which are stitched in, leaving the button pendent from the tape.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved detached button fastening in which the button is connected to a garment by means of a tape strung through the button-mold and having its ends stitched in.
My invention consists in the several novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described, and specifically set forth in the claim annexed.
It is constructed as follows: A is the button-mold, provided with the notches 1, opposite each other and in line with the central opening 2 through the mold. B is the tape or Fig. 2 is a cord, elastic or not, as may be desired, by 0 which the button is connected to the garment. As shown in the drawings, this cord is passed across the back of the mold through the notches on either side. Then each end is passed through the center openingone on 5 one side and one on the otherand when the ends are drawn'down a double loop is formed around the button-mold on each side of the center, and the cord, being inserted in this way, is sufficiently cramped at the bend to 40 prevent it from slipping and the button-mold from sliding upon the cord. This mode of lacing the cord through the mold is shown to illustrate one mode of doing it.
hat I claim is A button-fastening consisting of a buttoninold having a planesurface and edge notches opposite each other, a tape or cord passed across said mold and in the notches, the free ends passed through the central opening to 50 the rear face of the mold, forming means of attachment, substantiallytas set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 18th day of May, 1889.
