No. 424,197. Patented Mar. 25,V 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER H. HARRISON, OF NEW' EDINBURG, ARKANSAS.
COLLAR FOR ANIMALS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 424,197, dated March 25, 1890. Application filed June 14, 1889. Serial No. 814,191. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER H. HARRISON, a citizen ot' the United States, residing at New Edinburg, in the county of Cleveland and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and luseful Collar for Animals, of Which the following is a specification. Y
The invention relates to improvements in collars for animals.
The object of the present invention is to provide a bell-collar of simple and inexpensive construction which shall be strong and i durable and capable of ready adjustment to fit the necks of various-sized animals.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspectiveview of a collar constructed in accordance With this invention. Fig. 2 is a similar View, the parts being separated; and Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal sectional view.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A designates a bell-collar constructed of sheet metal and composed of two sections A and A2, which are adjustable on each other, whereby the collar maybe increased and diminished in size to adapt it to different sized necks.
The upper section A is provided upon each side with a series of adjusting-holes a, Which are designed to be engaged by pins b, situated near the end of springs that are `riveted or similarly secured to the section A2. The upper ends of the section A2 are provided with lateral flanges a', Which are bent over upon the outer face of the section to form grooves or Ways in Which the upper section A slides,
and the said ends are provided With perforations CL2, which are situated opposite the pins o, that are passed through the perforations a2 in securing theparts together. To adjiust the collar the ends of the upper section are slipped into the grooves or Ways a', and one of the adjusting-holes a on each side ot' the section A is made to register with the perforations a2, and then the pins b are pushed through the registering-openingsv and the seotion pulled slightly apart to bring the neck of the pin in the narrow portion or slot of the hole a, thereby securely holding the parts springs B, having the pins b, having heads to p engage said slots, substantially as and tor the purpose set forth.
In testimony thatI claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
