Be it known that l, VILLIAM HIGH, a citizen-of the United States, residing at Morrison, in the county 'of Whiteside and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Merchandise-Exhibiting Racks; and l do declare the following to be a full,clear,and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accom panying drawings, and tothe letters and iigures of reference marked thereon, Whiehform a part of this specification.

My invention `has reference to certain devices intended for exhibiting in"an attractive manner samples.of merchandise on sale, and is adapted to be placed in any conspicuous place, preferably a show-window.

My invention embodies, in addition to the supporting-standards, adjustable arms, mov g devices, and means for changing and adjusting the position of the several supporting elements. V

In the drawings, Figure l is a front perspective of a machine embodying-my invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail of the attachment of the transverse supporting-arms.

A Aare two standards of suitable size having a broad base A and mutually connected at different altitudes by cross-bars B B. 0n the side of the standards A, respectively, are pivoted a Vertical seriesof adjustable-arms transverse openings l. The arms Care piv-` oted to the standards A in such manner as to project a certain distance in the front and rear of said staudards,but preferably having their greatest projections toward the front. lhe arms C are also preferably projected diagonally downward at their front ends, so as to respectively partially uncover the members of the series next below.

D D are parallel wires inserted at each end, respectively, in a pair of arms C in the same plane through the openings l of the latter. Each arm C is provided with a longitudinal series of said openings l both before and behind the standards A, and the rods can he optionally shifted in said openings, so as to adapt them for the special form of commodity to be supported thereby. The rods Dare held by the arms C in the'horizontal position to serve as supports for the samples of merchandise distributed thereon. For convenience and greatest practieability there should be at least three of the rods D in each pair of arms() in front of the standards A and one of said rods in the rear of said standards, although the number of rods, like their distribution, may be optional. At and near the point of attachment of the arms C to the standards A there are formed in each of said arms two or more transverse openings 2, and by shifting the screw 3, whichattaches the arms,

The purpose of the connecting-bar E is"to secure a uniformity of position of all of the armsO and to aid in coincidently changing the position, if desired, of` all of said arms.

Gr is a locking-rod rigidly attached at its lower end to the'base A", and having a bent rightangle' upper end 5, adapted 'to be inserted in any of the openings iii the connecting-bar E, and thereby hold and retain said bar and all of the arms in any prede tcrmined position.

Il i J K are respectively devices of variant formsconstructed of spring-wire and provided at their rear ends with a downward hook L, adapted to engage any of the wires D back of the front one and to rest at or neartheir forward extremities upon the forward vwire or wires D of the same pair of arms, and thereby support in a suitable position the samples of merchandise lattached thereto. These devices may be of variant constructions to adapt them, respectively, to the specic form of the/article designed to be suspended or supported thereby.l

The advantages of my invention are that. it is1ight,simp1e, cheap, and can be constructed in size proportionate to the space intended to be occupied -by it. It affords means for uniformly and safely supporting the diierent samples for exhibition, it. can be dressed or arranged in the main body of the room, where there is sufficient space for the work, and can then be placed in the window or other locality. In case f impending storm or dust or at night it can be readily ,withdrawn from the window or changed as a Whole to any location without disarranging or interfering,r with its exhibits.
