e it known that we, VILLIAM J. EVANS and WILLIAM H. KUNERT, both of Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Box-Pull, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Our invention relates to improvements in box-pulls; and the object of our invention is ro to produce a simple, cheap, and convenient box-pull which may be easily attached to any box, which is especially adapted for fragile boxes, as it has a large bearing-surface on the box, and which enables the box to be easily handled without injury.

To this end our invention consists in a boxpull constructed snbstantiall y as hereinafter described and claimed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying ze drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure l is a t'ront view of the box-pull applied to a box. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same on the line 2 2 in Fig. l. Fig. 3 is the same view, but with the front plate removed'. Fig. a is a detail perspective view of the back plate; and Eig. 5 Ais a detail front view of the front plate.

The box-pull is provided with a back plate l0, which lits against the inner wall of a box, and the plate is provided near each end with a laterally-extending ear 11, whichears are adapted to proj ect through slots in the box, and the ears are formed preferably bycntting the back plate so as to give the desired shape to the ears and then bending the ears from the body of the plate, as best shown in Fig. i. The ears are perforated neartheir outer ends so as to re- 4o ceive a handle. 'lhe front plate l2 is adapted to iit against the front side ol' a box opposite the back 'plate l0, and it is provided near each end with a transverse slot 13, and these slots are adapted to tit over the projecting ears l]Y of the back plate, as best shown in Fig. 2. The front plate is also provided with slots la, which are produced diagonally near the ends and sides of the plate, as best shown in Fig. 5, and by means of these slots a label l5 may be conveniently attached to the plate by doubling over the corners ofthe label and inserting them in the slots let, and this label may be marked to indica-te the character of the goods contained in the box.

A handle 16 is provided for the pull, and the handle is preferably made ot strong wire and provided with bent ends 16, which are adapted to enter and project through the perforations in the ears l1.

To apply the pull to a box, the back plate lO is placed on the innerside ofthe box land against the front wall, with the ears ll projecting through slots 17L in the frontof the box. The front plate l2 is placed against the front wall of the box, with the ears projecting through the slots 13, andthe handle is sprung into the ears. The front plate serves to strengthen the pull and also provides means for conveniently marking the box; but, if desired, the front plate may be dispensed with and the handle sprung directly into the ears, as shownin Fig.

The device is especially adapted for use on paper boxes, as the back plate lO has a large bearing-surface on the box, and the strain when the boxis pulled willthus be distributed in such a manner that the box will not be injured.

rlhe pull may be conveniently attached to a box as described, and after the box to which it is attached has been emptied the pull may be secured to another full box.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A box-pull comprising a back plate having laterally-extending ears to project through the side of a box, a front plate having end slots to receive the ears and diagonal slots to receive a label, and a removable. handle adapted to be secured in the ears. substantially as described.
