UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ERASTUS D. MOORE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
ELECTRIC ANNUNCIATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 482,263, dated September 6, 1892. Application filed February 18, 1892. Serial No. 422,059. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERASTUS D. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city. in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and usefulImprovementinElectricAnnunciators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to electric annunciators for hotels, burglar-alarms, &c.; and it consists in the combination of parts and mechanism for operating the same, substantially as hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in my claims.
In the'accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of an annunciator embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the apparatus in operation, dotted lines showing the movement of the armature d and shutter e and the action of the springf. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the same.
My invention comprises the frame a, helix b, magnet-core c, armature d, number or indicator plate 6, spring f, pivot g, pivot 2', and auxiliary magnet-bar j, all in combination with the frame a, as herein specified. To the frame a is screwed the magnet-core c and auxiliary magnet j. Around 0 is the helix b. The frame a is bent so that its upper arm is parallel to c. In this arm is a slot through which the armature d passes and in which it is pivoted, as shown at i. At the end of this arm is attached the indicator 6 by the pivot g, on which is wound the spiral springf. The spiral springfand pivot g are in the slot at end of the framea. The armature cl, havinga con nterbalance-arm, is pivoted at t' and is adjacent to the core 0 of said helix b in relation to said number or indicator plate e. All are attached to a single frame a. Every number is independent of every other number. When an electric current passes through the helix 1), the magnet-core c attracts the armature d and draws it toward 0, thus liberating the indicator e, which by means of the spring f springs into the position 6, in which the number on 6 may be easily read. \Vhen at rest, the indicator or number plate 6 rests on the armature 01, being held by a catch at an angle of about forty-five degrees, and the number or name is not shown until a current of electricity is passed through the helix Z).
I claim as my invention-- 1. The combination of the frame a, the helix b, the magnet-core c, the armature d, the indicator-plate e, the spring f, pivotally mounted, as at g, and the pivot carrying the armato re, all arranged and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of a frame having a slot therein and two projecting arms, a core mounted in a position approximately parallel with said slot, the armature d, pivotally mounted in the slot, an indicator-plate pivoted between the arms of the frame and engaging the armature, and a spring, as at f, adapted to throw the indicator-plate away from the armature when the armature releases the plate, substantially as set forth.
