RUBBER BOOT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 495,450, dated April 11, 1893.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES C. BRAUN- WARTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muscatine, in the county of Muscatine and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rubber Boots; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to improvements in rubber boots, and has for its object to prevent water, snow, or any foreign matter from entering the body of the boot from the top; and with this end in view, theinventon consists of the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

. In the drawings: Figure l is a perspective View of a boot embodying the invention and havingtheexcludingattachment brokenaway in parts. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the improved boot with the extension top turned down over the body thereof.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the iigures of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a rubber boot having a water-excluding attachment 2, of an impervious nature, of frustoconical form with the reduced portion thereof at the top and formed with a tubular bead 3 at the upper edge of the same in which is mounted a draw-string or strap 4, adapted to draw the said bead tightly against the limb of the wearer. The lower portion of the excluding attachment is attached to the body of the boot l by suitable means, or it may be a continuation of the same.

An extension top 5 starts from the lower termination of the excluding attachment 2,

and is of such length and cross-sectional dimension as to be drawn upwardly over the said attachment 2, and forms, with thelatter, a pocket 6 to receive water or such other material as may pass between the upper end of the extension 5 and the limb of the wearer.

The body of the boot adjacent to the lower portion of the excluding attachment is pro.` vided with suitable pull-straps 7 for evidentv purposes.

The water excluding attachment l extends above the knee of the wearer and is there securely fastened around the leg by means of the draw-strin g or strap 4, so that should water, snow, or any foreign matter enter at the top of the extension top 5, it will pass down and be retained by the pocket 6, until said extension top is turned down as shown in Fig. 2, when the contents of said pocket will pass out freely. By this means, the limb and foot of the wearer are kept perfectly dry.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is The combination with the upper part of the leg of a rubber boot, of a frusto-conical eX- cluding attachment having a tubular head at its upper reduced end with a drawing string therein, and an extension top having its lower end secured to the boot-leg at. the lower termination of the excluding attachment and arranged to be drawn up over the latter, said extension top being of greater cross-sectional dimension than the leg of the boot and standing away equally at all points from the excluding attachment when drawn up, to form a pocket between the inner surface of the same and the said excluding attachment and also to compensate for the increase in size of the limb of the wearer, substantially as described.
