Description

UNITED STATES PATENT UOEEICE.
JOHN U. PARREY, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE' ASSIGNMENTS, TO THE SIMPLE ACCOUNT FILE COMPANY, OF
, FREMONT, OHIO.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 531,271, dated December 18, 1 894. Application iiled January 16,1894. Renewed October 22, 1894. Serial No. 526,573. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN U. PARREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Kalamazoo, in the county of Kalamazoo and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Account-File, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to bill files, and more particularly to that class of bill les that have ro indexed divisions and are adapted for account purposes.
The objects of my invention are to provide a bill or account file in which the index sheets and the intervening bills shall be firmly secured and shall also be easily separated so that additional entries can be made without disarranging the parts, and to produce such a file in a simple and inexpensive form. I accomplish these objects by the device shown zo in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a view in perspective of my invention as it appears when closed. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the same with the index plates and bills removed a part of the backl z 5 being broken away. Fig. .3 is an Aelevation of the central portion of the back. Fig. 4 is a view onlhe under side of one of the index plates and Fig. 5 is a view on line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
A, is the board on which the indexed plates and account sheets rest.
B, is the vertical back which extends the entire length of the base board and is rounded on top. The filing wire C is inserted in the base board and passes up and curves down over the back board B at an equal distance from it and terminates in a point, alittle be- 4o low the level of the top of base board A.
A wire D is doubled so that the two ends are parallel. The middle portion is curved slightly downwardto pass the point of the ling wire. This wire D is adjustable in grooves D in the base board A. When it is pushed out as in Fig. 2 it prevents leaveson the file wire C from being moved, and holds them in position on the file Wire. When the wire D is pulled back the index plates and 5o account sheets can be removed or replaced as desired.
My invention is particularly adapted fory the use of retail establishments. By making the entries of transactions directly on the sheetin the tile, the statement 0f account is always-ready to be presented and can be returned to place if it is not paid.
In making an entry the index plates and leaves above the initial required can be turned over to the other side of the back board B, the' Wire D preventing them passing off the filing wire and the board B preventing their d isarrangement. It is not material at which side or at which end of the base board the board B and tiling Wire C are placed. I strengthen the index plates E by a strip of metal F passed under each of them and folded in a neat hem over the edge. This prevents the index plates being broken by usage.
The details of construction of my device can be varied without departing from the main features of it.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a bill lile the combination of a base A; a vertical guiding back board B; a filing wire C in base board A, and curved over the guiding back; and a retaining wire D, adjustable in grooves D"= substantially as described for the purpose specified.
2. Ina bill file, the combination of a base, a vertical guiding back, and a filing wire inserted in the base and bent over the guiding back, to receive bills and permit of opening the file for examination or to make new entries substantially as described. Y
3. In a bill file the combination of a base, a vertical guiding back attached thereto, a filing wire inserted in the base and bent over the guiding back, and suitable means of retaining the bills substantially as described.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN U. PARREY. [1.. s]
Witnesses: I
WALTER S. Woon, A. SYDNEY HAYs.
