M f k TaTns PATENT Trina WINDOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 579,460, dated March 23, 1897. Application filed June 1, 1896. Serial No. 593,9 l4. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM W. WILBUR, a citizen of the United States, residin g at Troy, county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVindows, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to such improvements; and it consists of the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter de scribed and subsequently claimed.
Reference may be had to the accompanying drawin gs, and the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Similar letters refer to similarparts in both figures therein.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front elevation of my improved window. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the frames of the same.
My invention comprises two panes of glass each having a supporting-frame, an interposed packing, and means for compressing the packing between the frames, so that the space inclosed between the two panes of glass and their frames shall be approximately airtight.
The glass-supporting frames maybe of any known form.
I have shown one pane of glass, G, supported by an ordinary form of sash-frame having the usual flange or tongue G against which the glass is held by brads and putty D in the usual manner. The other pane of glass, G is provided with a frame G which may be in the form of a molding-strip, as shown.
The packing-strip G, which may be made ble moisture in milder weather, but will greatly diminish the loss of heat in an artificially heated room provided with my improved window.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a window-sash frame and a pane of glass tightly secured therein, of a separate pane of glass and glasssupporting frame,a strip of packing inserted partially within a groove in one of the frames, 7
and means for compressing the packing be-' tween the frames, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a window-sash frame having an inwardly-projecting tongue, provided 011 one side with a packing-groove, of a strip of packing inserted partially within the groove, a pane of glass bearing along its edges upon the projecting strip of packing, means for holding the glass tightly against the packing, and a similar pane of glass hearing along its edges upon the opposite side of the tongue, and means for holding such glass in engagement with the tongue substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 25th day of May, 1896.
V. V. \VILBUR.
