Description

'UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE; 1
EDWARD JAMES PAQUETTE, or NEW oRLEANsILoUIsIANA.
BOTTLE-PROTECTGR..
SPECIFICATIQNfor-min'g part of Letters Patent N0'. 596,304, dated December 28, 1897-.
To all whom it may conoerm..
Beit known that I, EDWARD JAM-ES PAn QUETTE, a citizen ofthe Unit-ed States, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Pro-- i tectors; andvldohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will ena-ble others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. l
This invention relates to improvements in protectors for bottles,- and has morer particular relation. to protectors for nursingfbottles.
. The invention consists otcertain novel constructions, which will be'hereinafter more v particularly set forth and claimed.'
In the. accompanying drawings, 'forming part offthis specification, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a nursing-bottle provided with my invention. Fig. 2 represents a central vertical sectionthrough the same. Fig.
3 represents an enlarged detail perspective view Vof the nipple-securing band.
A in the drawings-represents the -bottle properg'B, my improved protector; C, the nipple, and D the nipple-guardl Thes'aid bottle A may be of any desired construction, but is` i preferably of the type shown in the drawings.
My said improved protector B, which is applied over the said. bottle A fromabove, is
preferably constructed of thinsheet rubber molded to approximate the general outline of the bottle A and provided upon its outer sur- ,face with a plurality of knobs or projections b, adapted to absorb any shockl or concussion caused bydroppingthe lbottlejupon a hard' 'of'which is to permit ready observation of the contentsof the bottle.
The upper contracted end of said protector is provided with a nipple-attachin g bander guard D,also formed of rubber and preferably molded integral with the Said protector B; but I do not care to limit myself `to thisn guard being made in one piece awith saidl protector, as it may be Application filed November- 28, 1896. Serial No. 613,761. (No model.)
made separate and slipped over the same and .still accomplish the object desired in the same perfect manner.- This protectorcomprises' an annular band d', adapted to pass about the neck of the bottle, and a looped apertured bandJ1 d2, adapted to pass up and over the nipple It will be observed that by the employment of'my invention the bottle is absolutely protected from breakage by being droppedv by the child because of my improved protector B, and at the same time the nipple C is held lirmly in position and cannot bepulled o of the neck of the bottle by the child and thusspillthe contents 'of the bottle..
YVhen the bottle is not in use, the nipple is preferably bent down'andfone portion of the 4band d2 slipped over the same, so as to prevent the escape of the contents of the bottle should the same be accidentally placedin ,an inverted position..
XVhile the body portion of the protector B can be of very thin rubber, the bottle -at the Sametime is fully protected against anysevere shock. by the peculiar formation of the projections or studs upon its surface.
Mysaid protector is so applied tothe bot-l tle that when so desired itmay be instantly removed from the same for washing or refilling the bottle. f
I do not wish to limit the application of my improved protector to-nursing-bottles, as the same maybe applied upon all bottles which are exposed to the danger of sudden shocks or concussione. n l
- Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim asnew, and desire to lsecure by Letters Patent, isv E l 5 l. A protector for nursiugbottles comprising a bollowrnbbe'r covering adapted to 1be slipped overV the bottle, and a rubber strap connected to said casing and adapt-ed to be slipped over the-nipple to hold thev same firmly in position, substantially as described.
2. A' nursingbottle protector comprising a hollow i'ubbercasing, and a flexible nipplestrap connected to the same at its upper end and provided with an aperture through which the nipple passes, whereby a portion of said strap lies upon each side of the nipple to hold the same iirmly down in positon,=substan tially as described.
3. A nipple-holder comprising in elastic ring adapted to be applied about the nookof a bottle, and an elastic strap having its respective ends secured to said ring upon dametrioally opposite sides and provided :it its l top with :i nipple-receiving aperture; the oo1istruction being such that the nipple may pass through said aperture so :is to canse the somiri n gistmn'tn hem* umm er1-oh sido of the ni 1y ple and thus hold tho Sarno firmly in position, 1o substantially :is described.
In testimony whereof i have signed this spooiiozition in the prosonoo'of two subscrii ing Witnesses.
'EDWARD JAMES lAigU ICTTE.
