SYRlNGE-TUBE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 611,454, dated September 2'7, 1898.
' Application filed March 7, 1898.
T0 ctZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES E. LONGDEN, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvementin Syringe-Tubes and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1, a side view of a syringe-tube embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a horizontal sectional view of the same; Fig. 3, an end view of the tubewith the deflecting-head removed.
This invention relates to an improvement in syringe-tubes, and particularly to that class which are kn own to the trade as ball-spray tubes. In the more general construction the end of the tube is perforated, so that the flu id forced through it is deflected in jets. In tubes of this character it is desirable that means should be provided to regulate the amount of fluid discharged; and the object of this invention is to construct the tube so that the opening at the outer end may be increased or diminished, as desired; and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claim.
The tube A may be of anydesired size or shape and adapted at its inner end for connection with a supply-pipe in the usual manner. The tube is formed open at its outer end, and into this open end is secured a web B, the outer face of which is concaved, forming a seat C. This web is formed with a central screw-threaded opening D and an annular series of perforations E. Into the threaded opening D is inserted a screw F, having a defleeting-head G, the under face of which is convex, so as to be seated upon the outer face of the web to close the perforations. The
outer face of the head is rounded and prefer- Serial No. 672,969- (NO 111M611) ably formed with a transverse notch H for a screw-driver for conveniently turning the screw. I
The diameter of the head corresponds substantially to the external diameter of the outer end of the tube, so as to provide a rounded end therefor.
The screw is turned to move the head toward or away from the web until the space between the head and web is adjusted to a degree necessary to permit the desired flow, and this can be positively regulated by adjusting the position of the head with relation to the web, so that the purchaser can readily adjust the tube according to the requirements of the case.
I am aware that nozzles have been provided with heads at their outer ends for deflecting the flow of water so as to form a spray, and therefore do not wish to be understood as claiming, broadly, such as my invention; but,
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A syringe-tube comprising a tube partially closed near its outer end bya web forminga concave seat, said web formed with a central threaded opening, and an annular series of perforations around said central opening, a screw entered into said opening and having a head corresponding substantially in diameter to the external diameter of the outer end of the said tube, and formed with a convex under face adapted to enter the outer end of the tube,-and also formed with a convex outer face projecting beyond the end of the tube so as to provide a rounded end therefor, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the ing witnesses.
CHARLES E. LONGDEN.
