TO ALL WHOM IT MAY'CONOERN:

Be it known that we, THEOPHILUS JONES and WILLIAM MORGAN, of the city of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Compound for Improving the Quality of Iron; and we hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, together with the mode of applying and working the some, to wit:

Put five hundred pounds of pig-metal into a common boiling-furnace, (such as is commonly used,) and when the metal comes to a boil, add the following ingredients, to wit: seven ounces of manganese, one pound of common salt, two ounces of coppcrus, three ounces of potash, one ounce of snltpetre.v The addition of the above five ingredients to five hundred pounds of common pig-metal in the furnace produces a very superior quality of iron in every respect.

We claim the use and application ofthc above-described compound for the purpose set forth.
