IRRIGATING VAGINAL SYRINGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 669,910, dated March 12, 1901.
Application filed March 16,1900. serial No. 8,947. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH PARKER BALL, M. D., a citizen of the United States, residing at Hesston, in the county of-Harvey and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Irrigating Vaginal Syringe, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an irrigatingsyringe for vaginal usage; and it consists of the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter describedand claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a transverse vertical section of the improved device without the dam. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the device as shown by Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 with the dam applied.
The elongated body A, of suitable hard material capable of antiseptic treatment, is provided with a compound curved bevel V, so as to form an irrigating projection W in advance. The latter projection is constructed with a plurality of egress-apertures to, which have communication with an inflow canal or tube D, extending longitudinally through the body and connectible at its outer end to a bulb or other medicament-injecting device. The outer terminal portion of the curved bevel V has an outflow or waste tube 0 communicating therewith and also extending 1ongitudinally through the' body parallel with the tube D, and to the outer extremity of the tube 0 a suitable waste-pipe will be attached. Nearer the inner operating or entrance end of the body the latter is formed with circumferential seats at or recesses, which are spaced apart from each other, and therein are secured the ends of aninflatable dam E of suitable expansible durable material, the said dam surrounding the part of the body between the seats or recesses, and communicating therewith through said intermediate portion of the body is a pipe or tube-B, having an outer mouthpiece or nipple b for attachment to or engagement by suitable air-compressing means and controllable by a clamp, as will be also the pipe connected with the canal or tube D.
The dam occludes the organ, as will be readily understood, and the instrument can be conveniently used in view of its construction for irrigating, cleansing, disinfecting, or applying any medicated solution to a vagina.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- An instrument of the class described consisting of an elongated straight cylindrical body having afrontentrance end formed with a curved bevel to project one side thereof in advance of the other to provide for the establishment of a small clearance-space between the said bevel and the adjacent portion of the wall of the organ for the free outflow of the injected fluid after application, the said entrance end presenting a full convex surface to prevent injury to the organ during insertion and completely closed except the projected side thereof which is exclusively provided with small perforations, the body being also formed with two circumferential recesses spaced apart from each other and one l0cated adjacent to said entrance end, the body between said recesses being provided with an outlet-opening communicating with a duct extending through the body to the rear end, two other ducts passing longitudinally through the body and respectively feeding the perforated portion of said entrance end and providing an outlet from the bevel of the entrance end, and an inflatable dam surrounding the body and having its opposite terminals depressed in the recesses and secured.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
J. PARKER BALL.
