SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 703,008, dated June 24, 1902.

T0 to whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CALVIN Scorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Blythedale,in the county of Harrison and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Identification-Tags; and I do declare the following to be a full,clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful im provements in leg bands or devices for attachment either to the leg of poultry or to the ear of live stock for the purpose of identifying the same; and it consists in the provision of a metallic strip the ends of which are adapted to be locked together and making it impossible to separate the ends, thus rendering the device impracticable for use a second time.

More specifically the invention consists in the provision of a strip of metal, which may be of any desired shape and having a hollow end which is provided with an interior flange, while the opposite end carries a winged disk of flexible material, which is adapted to be inserted in the opposite end, the wings of said disk being adapted to engage behind the interior flange in the hollow end of the strip, thus securely holding the ends together.

The invention will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim, and is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which drawings Figure 1 is a detail view of the blank or strip, showing the winged disk pivoted to one end and the opposite end hollow. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the hollow end of the device. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the winged disk. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view showing the two ends interlocked.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a piece of metal, which may be of any shape, either flat or round being preferable, and one end of said piece is hollowed out, as at A, and provided with an interior flange B. The oppositeend of the device has a tapering end 0, to which is pivoted a winged disk D, having wings D, which are flexible. Said disk is mounted on a pin E, as shown.

The device thus constructed after being placed about the leg of poultry or attached through an aperture in the ear of live stock the disk carried at the end of the metallic strip is inserted in the hollow end of the strip, the wings of the disk yielding to allow the disk to enter, and after the ends of said Wings have passed by the end of the flange said wings will spring outward and engage behind the flange, thus making it impossible to disengage the ends without destroying the identifyingstrip.

These devices, which may be made of aluminium or any other suitable material, may be wound about the leg of poultry or through the cartilaginous membrane of the ear or nose of live stock and be fastened in the manner described, so that it cannot be used a second time for the purpose for which the identification-tags are provided. Owing to the simplicity of the construction of the device,which may be constructed at a minimum cost, the fact of their not being able to be used a second time is of slight importance.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

An identification strip or tag for poultry, live stock, &c., comprising a piece of metal, having one end hollow and provided with an interior flange, a headed pin mounted on the other end of said strip, a disk having flexible wings mounted on said pin, said disk adapted to be inserted in the hollow end of the strip, and the wings to engage said flange, as set forth.
