' Appiano@ tasselli-,amber s, 1902.T serial No. 121,997. (No man.) a
To all whom it may concern/:
Be it known that `We, CHARLES J. VAN VAL- KENBURG, residing at Manchester, in the county of Washtenaw and State of Michigan, and RANDALL T. VAN VALKENBURG, residing at Laporte, in the county of Laporte and State of Indiana, citizens .of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Cabinets; and Vwe do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to display-cabinets more particularly adapted for displaying lacecurtains, portieres, and the like; and its ob. ject is to provide a cabinet of this class which will protect the curtains from the dust and dirt when the cabinet is closed, and which may be readily opened with the curtains artistically draped to display the same to a customer.
The invention consists in the construction, Y combination, and arrangement of parts, as
will be more fully described hereinafter, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and finally pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure lis a front view of the cabinet with the doors open. Fig. 2 is a similar view With the doors and .sides open. Fig. 3 is a top view with thetop of the cabinet removed and the side sand doors entirely open. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectionthrough the cabinet with the top, bottom, and sides removed and showing the hangers removed.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the back, 2 the top, and 3 the bottom, of the cabinet, which is preferably rectangular. The sidesi are hinged to the back, as at 5, and the front, which comprises two ,doors 6 6, is hinged to the front edges of the sides. The doors and sides are adapted to be opened to extend outwardly on each side ofthe cabinet, as shown in Fig, 3, when the goods are being displayed. The top is supported at the front 'by means of two posts 7 7.. To the back is secured a bracket 8, having a plurality otyertioal apertures in which the ends of'a'plurality of'hangers 11 are journaled. Each hanger is composed of a metal rod doubled upon itself to form an upper portion 12, having an upwardly-bent central loop 13, in which a hook let is secured,
and a lowerparallel portion 15, on which the rings 16 are mounted, theY end of the lower portion being secured to the right-angular journal end l''of the upper portion. The hangers are all connected together at equal distances apart by means of a chain 1S, which is hooked over the hook 13 on each bracket and is secured at its ends to the hinged sides Li; In this manner each of the hangers will be spread' apart at equal distances, revolve in the apertures in the bracket, and spread into a semicircle whenv the sides are opened, as
shown in Fig. 3, and thus display each curtain simultaneously. On the back and sides, near the bottom thereof, are secured rods 19, on which rings 2O are held and adapted to support the draping-cord 21. The rings may be dispensed With and the draping-cord attached to the rods, or the rods may be changed to dif.
ferent elevations to provide different e'ects for different-style curtains.
Other changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the principle of our invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
Having thus described our invention, what We claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A cabinet provided with hinged sides adapted to be extendedon each side thereof, and a plurality of hangers adapted to be spread apart bythe extension of the sides.
2. A display-cabinet composed of a casing having a hinged front and sides, a bracket secured to the back of the casing, hangers pivoted in said bracket andy adapted to support curtains, a chain connecting the hangers at equal distances apart and secured at its ends to the hinged sides, whereby every curtain will be displayed when the. sides are opened.
3. A display-cabinet having ahinged front and hinged sides, hangers pivotally mounted in the cabinet, means connecting the hangers with each other and to the sides of the cabinet to permit the hanger to be spread apart at equal distances when the sides are opened.
4. A cabinet having a plurality of hangers IOO ljournal, and the lower portion engaging said right-angular bent end.
5. A cabinet having hinged sides, a plurality of hangers mounted therein, a chain for connecting the hangers to each other and to the hinged sides, and means carried by each hanger for securing the chain to the hangers.
(51A cabinet having hinged sides, a plurality of hangers pvoted in the cabinet, a iiexible connection between the hinged sides and in engagement with the hangers to spread the latter synchronously with the opening of the sides.
7. In a display-cabinet, a stationary back and hinged sides provided with draping-cord supports.
8. vIn a display-cabinet, a stationary back, hinged sides, draping-cord supports secured to the stationary back and hinged sides and consisting of the rods adapted to receive rings.
In testimony whereof We affix our signatures in presence of two Witnesses.
