Description

No. 739,259. 'PATENTED SEPT515, 1903',
F. W. HOOK.
ERASER HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE '5, 1903.
N0 MODEL.
' M MQQ/a UNITED I STATES- Patented September 15, 190
PATENT OFFICE.
FRED w. HOOK, on PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
ERASER-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.'739,259, dated September 15, 1903. Application filed June 5,1903. Serial No. 160,249. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRED W. HOOK, a citizen of the United States of America,'residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eraser-Holders, of which the following is a specification,
nying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in eraser-holders, and has for its object the provision of novel means whereby an eraser may be held in a convenient position upon the frame of a type-writer.
Another object of my invention. is to provide an attachment for type-writers and the like which may be easily secured thereto and means carried by said attachment for holding an eraser so that the same will be convenient to the operator.
A further object of my invention is to provide an eraser-holder which will support an reference being had therein to the accompa eraser and readily hold the same, wherebythe eraser may be easily detached from the holder when it is desired to use the same; and a further object is to provide an attachment for type-writers of the above-described character which will be extremely simple, strong, and durable and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
Briefly described, my invention consists in providing a clamp which may be readilysecured to the framework of a type-writer and secured to said clamp. I provide a pair of projecting flexible arms in which an eraser may be supported convenient to the operator.
In describing the invention in detail referonce is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and whereinlike numerals 'of reference indicate like parts throughout both views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved holder, showing the same applied to.
the base of a type-writer, said type-writer being shown in dotted lines; and Fig. 2 is 'a side elevation of the holder, showing the same attached to one of the frames of a type-writer.
In carrying out my invention I provide a clamp 1,which is preferably formed U-shaped,
the one side thereof being bent inwardly, as indicated at 2, said bent-in portion adapted to engage the inwardly-extending flange 3 of the framework forming the base of the typewriter,- the other side of the U-shaped portion 1 having an aperture 4 formed therein, through which passes a screw 5, having a knurled or roughened head 6, and this groove being adapted to secure the U-shaped clamp to the framework of the typewriter. Formed integral with this U-shaped portion and extending upwardly'at an angle of forty-five degrees from the clamp is the enlarged portion 7, which has a slot or cut-away portion '8 formed, centrally thereof, and adapted to be secured in said slot by any suitable means,
preferably a rivet 9, are the flexible or spring arms 10, these-arms being preferably of a form as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings, said arms being partially elliptical and having their outer ends bent outwardly, as indicated at 11, whereby an eraser may be easily inserted between the arms and held thereby.
In Fig. 1 of the drawings I have illustrated my improved holder as secured to the framework forming the base of the type-writer and in a position adjacent to the keys of the typewriter, whereby the same may be in a con venientposition for the operator. It is obvious that this eraser-holder may be secured upon any part of the framework of the machine, preferably the front part thereof, so
that the same may be easily reached by the person desiring to use the same. By the construction of the flexible arms 10 it will be noted that most any form of eraser can be held thereby, said eraser being inserted and supported in an easy manner, whereby the same may be easily and quickly detached from the.
holder when it is desired to use the same.
While I have herein shown and'described a practical embodiment of my invention, yet
it will be obvious that various slight changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An eraser-holder comprising a U-shaped clamp, one side of said clamp being bent inwardly, a thumb-screw passing through the other side of saidclamp and adapted to se- IOO cure said clamp upon the framework of a type writer, an enlarged portion formed on one clamp, elliptical-shaped metallic arms riveted side of said clamp, and elliptical-shaped mewithin said enlarged portion, the outer ends tallic arms secured in said enlarged portion, of said arms being bent outwardly, substansubstantially as described. tially as described.
5 2. An eraser-holdercomprisinga U-shaped In testimony whereof I aflix my signature :5
clamp, one side of said clamp bent inwardly, in the presence of two Witnesses.
a thumb-screw passing through the other side FRED W. HOOK. of said clamp to secure the same upon the Witnesses: framework of a type-writer, an enlarged por- E. E. POTTER,
