SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 750,104, dated January 19, 1904.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANTON C, EGGERS, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, borough of Manhattan, and State of 5 New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Throat-Bags, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in throat-bags which are intended to be used for IO hot and cold water for the treatment of diseases of the throat, &c., the bag being readily filled with hot or cold water and applied around the neck in a convenient manner.

For this purpose the invention consists of a 5 throat-bag of crescent shape and provided at its inner end with a steel spring with overlapping ends for holding the bag tightly on the neck and with means for filling said bag with hot or cold water.

2 In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved throat-bag, showing it as applied to the neck of the person. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same, showing it as detached from the neck. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the same. Fig. 4: is a modified construction of the bag, showing a different arrangement for filling the same.

Similar letters of reference indicate corre- 3 sponding parts' Referring to the drawings, A represents a hollow bag, which is made of rubber fabric f and is approximately of crescent shape. To the inner side of the crescent-shaped bag A is applied a steel spring, which is retained on the bag by a layer of knit fabric, which is fastened to the rubber bag and holds the flat spring S to the bag. The rear ends of the bag A and spring, covered with fabric, overlap, 4 so as toretain the bag in position. To one side of the front part of the bag is applied a funnel-shaped nozzle N and opening 77., which are closed in the usual manner by a suitable plug 10, which is removable for filling the bag with hot or cold water. In place of the rubher nozzle N a filling-opening with detach able stopper M may be used, as shown in Fig. A. When the bag is applied to the neck for treatment of throat diseases, the tapering ends are spread against the action of the spring and 5 placed around the neck after the bag has been filled with hot or cold water. The spring holds the bag in position on the neck, presses the bag against the same, and permits the convenient removal of the bag from the neck when the bag is to be refilled.

By my improved throat-bag throat diseases can be treated in a very convenient manner with hot or cold water, as desired, as it may be easily removed for filling and again applied.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A throat-bag, consisting of a bag of crescent shape, means for filling the same, and a flat spring, the ends of which are normally in 5 proximity to each other, applied to the inner surface of the bag for retaining the same on the neck, substantially as set forth.

2. A throat-bag, consisting of a bag of a segmental or crescent shape, means for filling 7 O the same, a flat spring applied to the inner surface of the bag, and a covering of knit fabric applied to the bag for retaining the spring in position on the bag, substantially as set forth.

3. In a throat-bag, the combination, with a crescent-shape bag proper, of a fiat spring, the ends of which are normally in proximity to each other, applied to the bag proper for retaining the same on the neck, substantially as set forth.
