UNITED STATES Patented February 2, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
BELT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. '7 51,132, dated February 2, 1904.
Application filed April 25, 1903.
1'0 all w/wm it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMON F. ZENGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Austin, in the county of Potter and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Belt, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved construction of belt adapted to be used in connection with trousers for the purpose of supporting the same. This belt is intended to be arranged upon the interior of the waistband, so that the means for supporting the trousers will be concealed; but it will,of course, be understood that the said belt can be arranged upon the exterior of the trousers, if so desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide a belt which can be quickly and easily adjusted to suit various sizes of trousers.
Vith these objects in view the invention consists in constructing the belt from two straps which cross each other adjacent their rear ends and are provided with means at said rear ends for attachment to the trousers, the forward ends of the straps having fastening means connected thereto, whereby the forward ends of the straps can be quickly and easily connected and disconnected when desired.
The invention consists also in certain details of construction, hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the practical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the belt detached from the garment. Fig. 3 is a top plan view showing the rear portion of the belt and the rear portion of the waistband of the trousers, the loop connected to the waistband being shown in section. Fig. i is a detail view showing the sliding buckle to which the forward end of the strap is connected; and Fig. 5 is adetail sectional View drawn through one of the buckles, the portions of the strap being shown in plan. v
In constructing a belt in accordance with my invention I employ a strap A and a strap B, both being of any desirable material, the strap B having an extension B, said extension being connected to the main portion of Serial No. 154,330. (No model.)
the strap by means of a vertically-elongated ring C, through which the rear end of the strap A passes, as most clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The ends of the strap A and the extension B' of the strap B are provided with buttonhole-tabs D. The forward ends of the straps A and B are connected to buckles F, said buckles sliding upon the straps A and B, so that the length of said straps can be increased or decreased, as desired. The strap A carries a hook H of any desirable construction, and the strap B carries an eye I, which is adapted to be engaged by the hook H, said hook and eye preferably sliding in the looped end of the strap, as most clearly shown in Fig. 2, and by hooking the hook and eye together the forward ends of the straps can be united. The buttonhole-tabs D are fastened to buttons Gr, sewed upon the inner side of.
the waistband of the trousers, and in practice I prefer to attach a loop K also to the waistband of the trousers and in which the ring C is intended to rest, as most clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
It will thus be seen that I provide a cheap, simple, and efficient construction of belt which can be quickly and easily attached to the trousers and which can be utilized for supporting said trousers, and at the same time the supporting means will not be exposed to view. It will of course be understood that one or more loops L, are sewed to the waistband of the trousers and through which the straps pass.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is a A belt comprising two straps, one of which has an extension connected thereto by means of aring, the other strap'passing through said ring, the buttonhole-tabs attached to the rear ends of the straps, the hook and eye arranged at the opposite ends of the straps, and the adjustable buckles for increasing and decreasing the lengths of the straps, asspecified.
SIMON F. ZENGER.
