` IIN llwrlliillllllllillliil Willitil llUTliNll JOHN B. Ol/Vliri, OF ZANlCSVlLLE, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE J. B. OWENS lJOlllQltY COMPANY, OF ZANESVILLE, UHIO, A CRPURrb 'iION OF @ll-llt).
it till til la. l bl tit no. ref/,314.
Speciiicaton ot' Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 15, 1905.
Ue it known that l, .loma E. UwriNs, a citizen ot' the United tiitates, residing at Mance ville, in the county olf lt/luskingum and litate ol' Uhio, have invented certain new and uselful improvements in Cooking Vessels, oi which the 'following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying` drawings.
Vlli/ly invention relates to two-part vessels lor cooking, each part ol.g which susceptible of use as an independent dish, while the combi nation of the two parts is susceptible of being used in a variety ot' ways.
r.lhe object ot' my invention is to provide a vessel o'l the class described which shall be cheap in manufacture and eilicient in use.
Vlin the drawings illustrating the principle olE my invention and the best mode now known to me ot' applying that principle, Figure l shows the lower part ol my new vessel. Vliig. 2 illustrates the upper member or cover VFor the part shown in Fig. i. Aliig. 3 represents the two members combined to form a sellbasting roaster. Fig. il: is a central sectional view ol what is shown in lfig. 3. Fig. 5 portrays in central sectional view the two parts combined to lorm a double boiler or broiler, and Fig. (i is a view of the cover inverted to be used as a pudding-pan.
'.lhe member n, lormed with a circular '['lange which projects downwardly Yfrom its bottom to give stability, and at its top is formed with a horizontal ledge or seat c, from which springs the vertical ilange (I, Figs. Yl and 4L. llhe cover u, Figs. 2 and t3, is '['lat on top to give it stability when inverted to be used as a cake-mold or jmddingalish, as shown in liig. (i. lt is provided with a knob or handle f, which is countersunk to give the cover a level or l'lat bottom when inverted, as just described, and its lower edge portion is 'formed with a flange y, which projects downwardly from a horizontal seat or ledge /1,. When the cover is inverted, Fig. 6, the flange f/ and seat constitute means lor holding a cover when it is desired to use one. lhe ledges c and /t and the flanges (Z and are so 'formed that a tight joint is produced where they meet, as shown in Figs. et and Hence when the two parts are iitted together to form a roaster the juices of the meat are retained elliciently and the device becomes a sel'lbastmg roaster, F 1g.
4, or when the cover is inverted and littedv into the dish t the lioint between the two is a tight one and insures water of a high temu perature in the dish a when the two parts thus combined are used as a double boiler, as in the familiar process ol2 cooking oatmeal, Fig. 5.
The dish member u. is relatively deep, so that when the cover f is inverted and fitted in the dish member ff. a substantial space is provided between the two t'or holdingl water--in case ot' the double boiler, ior example, in the case above referred to. .lhis and the close [it oi the parte ll consider lieatures ol my invention.
What l claim ism-- i. in a two-part cooking vessel, the combiu nation oil a dish member formed at its upper rim portion with a seat and a ilange projecting nfrom said seat, and a cover member tornied with a seat anda l'lange projecting' Afrom said seat, the 'i'lange ot' the cover member litting snugly within the flange otl the dish member to 'form a tight joint and the seat of the cover member resting upon the seat el the dish member-when the cover is inverted.
2. In a two-part cooking vessel, the combination oi a dish formed at its upper portion. with a seat, and a cover lormed with a seat adapted to rest upon the seat o'll the dish when the cover is inverted in the dish; the dish being deep with relation to the cover, whereby a substantial space is leit between the bottom ot the dish and the cover when the cover is inverted in the dish to lorm a double boiler.
In a two-part cooking vessel, the combination oitl a dish 'formed at its upper portion with a seat, and a cover Formed with a .knob and with a seat adapted to rest upon the seat of the dish; the dish being deep with relation to the cover and the knob oi the cover being sunk below the top ol" the cover, whereby a substantial space is leit between the bottom of the dish and the cover when the cover is inverted in the dish to liorm a double boiler.
4t. ln a two-part cooking-vessel, the combination of a dish formed at its upper rim portion with a seat and a flange projecting lrom said seat, and a cover formed with a seat adapted to rest upon the seat of the dish when the cover is inverted in the dish, and with aiilange iitting snugly within the iiangc of the dish to to this specification in the presence of two subscribing` witnesses.
JOHN B. OWENS.
