Description

PATENTED NOV. 21, 1905.
E. G. WASHBURN.
LOOSE SHEET HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED OCT.15, 1904.
D/ww/ar Z Z k; m w w EDWIN C. WASHBURN, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
I LOOSE-SHEET HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 21, 1905.
Application filed October 15, 1904. Serial No. 228,607.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWIN C. WASHBURN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loose- Sheet Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same.
My present invention has for its object to provide a simple, cheap, and efficient loosesheet holder or file; and'to such ends it consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described, and defined in the claims.
The device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout both the views.
Figure 1 is a plan view showing the complete device, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
The numeral 1 indicates a stifl fiat sheet or back, preferably of cardboard.
The numeral 2 indicates a flat metal piece, which is preferably stamped from thin sheet metal and which constitutes the back or base member of the clamping device.
The numeral Sindicates the movable member of the clamping device.
The members 2 and 3 are connected by a U-shaped spring 4, forced into seats afforded therefor by pressing from said members 2 and 3 yoke-like keepers 5 and 6, respectively. The spring 4 affords a hinge which yieldingly presses to gether the body portions of the two members 2 and 3. The body portions of both members 2 and 3 are extended transversely, and the former is provided with upturned V- shaped barbs 7, that are adapted to pass through perforations 8 in the said member 3.
Below the lower edge of the member 3 the member 2 is formed with upturned clenchinglips 9, that are passed through-the back or board 1 and are bent over to securely but detachably unite the said parts.
As is evident, the clamping portions of the members 2 and 3 may be readily separated by pressing together or toward each other the upper end portions thereof. When a sheet of paper is clamped between the members 2 and 3, the barbs 7 are forced therethrough and the paper is securely held around the said barbs.
The device above described, while very simple and of small cost, is efficient for the purposes had in view.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows:
1. In a device of the character described, the combination with the member 2 having the upturned barbs 7 stamped from the body thereof, and having the depressed yoke-like keeper 5, of the member 3, having the depressed yoke-like keeper 6, and perforations 8, through which perforations said barbs pass, and the U-shaped spring 4 having its ends inserted into said keepers 5 and 6, and.
affording a spring-hinge, connecting said two members, substantially as described.
2. The combination with the members 2 and 3, connected by a spring-hinge, and havmg respectively the cooperating barbs 7 and the ends of which are perforations 8, said barb 7 being stamped from the member 2, ofthe board 1, detachably secured to said member 2 by lips 9, also stamped from the said member 2, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWVIN O. WASHBURN.
