Description
FREDERICK A. GEISLER, OF BRISTOL, RHODE ISLAND.
Letters Patent No. 82,304, dated September 22, 1868.
" IMPROVED BABY-WALKER.
@the 5:13am nimh tu in #tra Estas @mit sur: making met 'nf the tame.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: v
. Be it known that I, FREDERICK A. GEISLER, of Bristol, in the county of Bristol, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Baby-Walkers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciiicaticmin which- Figurel represents a plan view of my improved apparatus.
Figure 2 represents a sectional elevation of the same, and
Figure 3 represents a detail view.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to an improvement 'in baby-walkers; and it consists in the construction of the yoke or holder whereby it is made adjustable. n
A represents a circular platform, having a central vertical shaft, B, adjustably supported by the set-screw C. D represents a shaft, arranged to rotate on the shaft B, and provided with aspring-pawl, E, which takesw into notches in the enlarged upper portion of the shaft B, for the purpose of preventing the shaft D from moving'backwards.l The notches are'so formed as to readily admit the shaft to move forward.
The spring-pawl is let into a recess in the shaft D, and otherwise so arranged that the child or its dress cannot be caught in the pawl, ortho pawl be inadvertently displaced from the ratchet.
The upper end of the shaft D is provided with a curved arm, F, at the outer end of which the supporting-- yoke Gr is connected, in such a manner as to allow it to oscillate to some extent in a horizontal plane, for the purpose of allowing the child more freedom tharihe otherwise would have.
The said yoke may be made in two parts, a and b. The part a, which is connected to the arm I by the bolt cZ, is provided with a socket, and the part with a shank, fitting into the said" socket, and the two secured together by a set-screw,- c.
By this arrangementa simple and reliable apparatus is afforded, in which the child may have great frecdom of action without danger to itself. I
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The'oscillating yoke G, made in two parts, -a the former pivoted by the bolt d to the.curved arm F, and provided with a socket, in which the'shank of the arm Zz is adjusted by the set-screw c, as herein described for the purpose specified.
FREDERICK A. GEISLER.
