PATENT oEEIoE."
TORRINGTON, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO UNION HARDWARE COMPANY, OF TORRINGTON, CONNECTICUT.
` A Rouen-SKATE.
' S'pecication of Letters Patent.
Patented June 12, 1906.
Application filed January 4. 1906. Serial No. 294,570.
' following to be a full, clear, and exact descripthe bottom of the foot-plate. consist of a sheet-metal strip roller-skates, and more tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to' which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in articularly to such as employ a sheet-metaFfoot-plate, one object of the invention being to so construct a skate of this class that the sheet-metal footplate shall be rigid and capable of effectually withstanding all strains to which it may be subjected.
A further object is to provide a skate with means which will serve to brace the foot-plate and also the truck-brackets and whichl willy also provide bearings for the screws of the clamps.
With these objects in view the invention l consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Fi re 1 isA a side elevation of a roller-skate em od g my improvements. Fig. 2 is a longitu inal view. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line a: of Fig.` 1, and Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view on the line y y of Fig. 1.
1 represents the sheet-metal foot-plate of theskat'e. possess ade uate strength and rigidity to withstand a strains which may be brought to bear ulpon it, especially when the skate is worn in t e rink by experts, I provide a longitudinal rib 2, which extends from the heel portion to a point in proximity to the toe on This ribinay disposed edgewisef against the bottom face of the foot-plate and riveted to the latter by means of integr lugs 3, which inf'the foot-p ends. Y
Adjustable clamps 4 for securing the skate to the shoe of the user are rovided near the toe and heel portions. Ilach clamp comroject upwardly through holes ate and upset at their upper p prises two members having guide-slots for the In order that this foot-plate shall.
ing-screw i'smade with right andileft hand threads separated by 'a plain central portion, and' the rib is made with notches 6, in which the lain-portions ofthe screws are disposed. In this manner longitudinal movement of the .clamp-screws is prevented when said screws are turned to adjust the clamp members.
Sheet-metal truck-brackets 7 straddle the strengthening-rib 2 and are provided with integra lugs, by means of which said brackets are riveted to the `foot-plate 1. One end of each truck-bracket has a bearing against the l strengthening-rib 2, and said brackets are braced against'endwise strain by shoulders 8- on the rib, brackets bear. y
Wheeled trucks 9 are mounted in the brackets 7 in a manner well understood.
With my improvements the foot-plate and truck-brackets are efectually braced, and simple and efIicient means are provided to insure the accurate operation of the clamps.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a skate, the combination with a footplate, of a strengthening-rib disposed edgewise'against the under face of the foot-plate and secured thereto, said strip extending continuously from the head portion of the footplate'to a point in proximity to the toe ofthe foot-plate, truck-brackets secured to the footplate and straddling the rib and trucks attached to said truck-brackets.
against which shoulders the 2. In'a skate, the combination with a sheet IOO lmickets stratddlinzgr said rib, said rih engagl ing said brackets to serve as a brace for the seme.
4. lIn a skate, the combination with a footplate, a longitudinal strengthening-rib on the bottom thereof, said rib having shoulders on its lower edge, and truck-brackets secured to the foot-plate, straddling seid rib and bearing against the shoulders on the latter.
5. In :t skate, the combination with a footplate, zt clamp and a screw for operating the l clamp, of a strengthenng-rib'onrthe bottom of the footlate and having notches to receive the p ain intermediate portion of the clamp-screw.
In' testimonr whereof l have signedtln's specication in the presence of tWo subscribingwitnesses.
