TEMPORARY BINDER. l l
Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patented nec. 1s, 196e.
.T @ZZ whont t may concern: l Be it known that I, ARTHUR LAWRENCE, a
Y citizen of the United States of America, and
a resident `of Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders, of which the following is a specification.
The main object of my invention is to provide an improved temporary binder for cards used in a vertical-ling system for facilitating reference to' said cards. I accomplish this object by the device shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the outside of a book constructed according to my invention. `Fig. 2 is a view, partly broken away, illustrating the'position of the pages when the back is open and omitting the detail structure of the pages. Fig. 3 is a planof one of the pages. of Fig. 3 on the line 4 4.
. Each of the pages 1 is provided with card- Fig. 4 is a section lretainin strips 2, 3, and 4, which are secured to each ace of the page andhave projecting edges or lips, underl which the edges of the cards' are inserted. The strips 2, 3, and 4 are pasted upon the pages 1. An additional narrow strip l2 is preferably pasted between the card-retaining stri s 3 and 4 and the page l. In this form t e binding-strip13 is made of canvas which `is doubled or made in twoV strips to lie between the page and each of the card-retaining strips 2.
Different pages are rovided with removable index'- tabs 14. n the forms shown the pages 1 and card-retaining strips are made of cardboard. The binding-strip 7 isalso made of cardboard. .Y
The manner `of-inser'ting or removmg the cards is illustrated in Fig. 4 by the dotted.
to fill the space be ore occupied by the removed card. The removed cards may then be yfiled away in a vertical-filing case. The indexing of thel agesl and arrangement of a large number o cards on each `age permit a much more convenient re erence to the same than can be had if ledin the usual manner in a vertical-filing case. v
be shoved down or upv What I claim as; my invention, and desire `to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a temporary card-binder, a age lhaving a flexible binding-strip on its ace,
' each binding-strip serving as a base, on W ich is secured an overlapping card-retaining strip suitable for receiving one edge of a card, substantially as described.
3. In a temporary card-binder, a page havin a flexible binding-strip securedupon each ace alongone edge thereof, a card-retaining strip overlapping the binding-strip on each face of the page, and adapted to removablyreceivepthe edge of the card, asecond card-retaining device, secured upon the face of the page and adapted .for receiving the opposite edge of the card, substantially as described. A
4. In a temporary card-binder, a page having on the face thereof` card-retaining strips, so mounted as to removably receive cards, and a flexible binding-strip secured to the face of the page along the edge thereof passing between the face of the page and one of the card-,retaining strips, forming a base for said card-retaining strip and kee ving it spaced from the face of the page, su
stantially as described.
5. In a temporary card-binder, a card-l age having a flexible binding-stripl board secure upon each face thereof along one edge, a card-retaining strip overlapping the binding-strip on each face of the page, and adapted to removably receive the edge of a page, and a card-retaining strip secured to and overlapping the strip 12 for receiving the card, a'strip 12 secured upon each face of the IOO opposite edge of the card, substantially as described.
Signed at Chicago this 13th day of January', 1905. p p
ARTHUR LAWRENCE.
