Description

PATENTED MAY 28, 1907.

BRACKET.
APPLIUATION FILED JULY 5. 1906.
A WITNESSES: g I I 2 thereof disposed at an acute FRANK B. SOUOEY, OF COLLEGEVIEW, NEBRASKA.
BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 28, 1907.
Application filed July 5, 1906. Serial No. 324,875.
To (all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK B. SoUoEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Collegeview, in the county of Lancaster and 5 State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Bracket, of which specification.
This invention has relation to brackets adapted to be used upon walls and other fined surfaces for the purpose of supporting shelving, moldings, ornaments, etc.
The bracket. consists of two members which are of identical construction and are hinged together. One member is provided with an elongated opening and the opposite member is provided with a set screw which passes through said opening. The portion of the bracket having the set screw bears laterally against the portion of the bracket provided with the elongated opening and at such bearing surfaces corrugations or ribs are provided which are disposed transversely to the longitudinal axis of said opening. The hinge is formed between the members of the bracket at the apex or corner of the bracket and consequently, when the set screw is tightened, the said corrugations engage each ot ier and prevent the tendency of longitudinal slip of the hinged member of the bracket. A bracket so constructed may have its wall and shelf engaging edges disposed at right angles to each other or at acute or obtuse angles as fancy or occasion may require.
In the accom anying drawing :Figure 1 the following is a 5 is a side elevation of the bracket with the members thereof disposed at right angles to each other. Fig. 2 is an edge elevation of the bracket partly in section. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the bracket with the members angle to each other. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the bracket with the members thereof disposed at an obtuse angle to each other.
For the purposes of description the mem- 5 her 1 will be referred to as the wall engaging {member of the bracket.
provided with the wall plate 2 having an integral brace portion 3 which is provided with the elongated slot or perforation 4. The shelf engaging member 5 is provided with a shelf plate 6 and the integral brace portion 7. The portion 7 is provided with a set screw 8. Said screw passes through the perforation 4. The extreme inner faces of the portions 3 and 7 are provided with the transversely disposed corrugations or ridges 9, the ridges of one member' of the bracket engaging the ridges of the opposite member when the set screw is tightened and thus preventing the possibility of any tendency to longitudinal slip between the portions 3 and 7. The members 1 and 5 are hinged together at the corner or apex of the bracket as at 10.
From the above description, it is obvious that the plates 2 and 6 may be disposed at right angles to each other or that the said edges may be secured at acute or obtuse angles to each other. Such adjustment and variation of angle is permitted by the overlapping of the ends of portions 3 and 7 and the parts are firmly held in such adjusted position by means of the set screw 8 and the corrugations 9 as above described.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A bracket consisting of a wall plate and a shelf plate hinged together at one end, each of said plates being provided with an integral brace section, the free ends of the brace sections being adapted to overlap, and means for adjustably connecting said sections together.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature 1n the presence of two witnesses.
