provide a novel and big y useful device ofthis character which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively small cost and which is simple. of construction and admira bly adapted for the purposes for which it is intended.
I -With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement ofparts hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a receptacle constructed in accordance with my invention; 'Fi 2 is a central sectional view thereof; an Fig. 3 is a bottom planview thereof.
Referring to the drawings by reference numerals, 1 designates. the body and 2 the cover of the receptacle, the latter being adapted to be removably secured to'the former in any manner found desirable. The top portion of the cover and the bottom portion of the body are each provided with an opening, designated respectively 3 and 4, these openings being adapted to permit of the emanae tion of the fumes of aperfumery or disinfectant of the healing qualities of a hot or cold medium, or through which may be dischar ed medicines adapted for application locally. Positioned wlthin the receptacle to receive the medicines, etc., is an absorbent pad 5, comprising two members which may e constructed of sponge or any other material found to possess the desired qualities. Members 6 of material suitably meshed, are applied on the under sides of the top portion 0 the cover and'the bottom portion of the body to extend across the openings 3 and 4, the same serving to revent the pad from projecting through sai openings.
When it is desired to use-the device as a receptacle for carrying erfumery or disinfectant, the pad 5 is moistened therewith and the receptacle may be suspended from the person by means of a ring 7 which is hingedly secured to the body 1 by means of a hinge 8, whereby the ring may be positioned in parallel relation with the edge of the receptacle in order to avoid its forming an obstruction when the device is being used to apply medicine locally. The ring may be used also to secure the device to the person when the same is being used to a ply a hot or cold medium, and when the evice is being used to apply a. cold medium, the pad 5 is in this instance preferably bnstructed of two members between which ice'may be positioned. The members of tlie pad will serve to absorb the water as the ice melts and prevent the same flowing onto the-person. 1 it is appar-' ent that the absorption of the water by the pad serves to add life to the cooling qualities of the ice. used as a means for applying a medicine locally, the pad 5 is saturated with the medicine and the same may be applied by gently rubbing the device over the person, the medicines being caused to exude from the pad by means of a slight pressure thereon. It is apparent that only one side of the device is adapted to be used when applying medicines locally, and said medicines may be caused to exude from the pad by means of pressure upon one of the retaining members 6 in a manner that is apparent, and that any quantity of medicine may be. applied by regulating the pressure. The openings in the receptacle permit of'the :free circulation of air therethrough when the device is to be used as a receptacle for carrying perfumery or disinfectant, and that said openings are of difierent diameters so as to permit of the When the device is to'be application of medicines to a greater or lesser portion ofthe erson. 1
therefor, openings provided in the cover and l portion of the receptacle, essentially as debody portion, said openin s being covered by scribed.
