Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25,1907.
Application filed October 26, 1905. Serial him 284,588-
To all whom it 111/0114 concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER RHEUBEN MOSHER, residing at Granville, in the county of Washington and State of New York,'have invented a new and useful Improvement in Grain-Bag Holders, of which the following is a s ecification.
his invention relates to an improvement in bag holders and has for its object to provide a cheap and simple construction for dgrain bag or sack open while it is being fille A further object o the invention is to provide an adjustable arrangement by which the device is adapted for various sizes of bags, and still a further ob'ect is to provide an adjustment by which t e holder may be connected to supportsor objects of various thicknesses such as boards, beams, and the like.
With these briefly stated objects in view, the invention comprises certain details of construction and peculiar combination and arrangement of parts aswill be fully described in the following specification and pointed out in the cl aims, reference being had to the drawingslin which 'gure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the practical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of my invention detached from the support. Fig. 3 is a detail plan view. Fig. 4 1s a detail section drawn about on the line 44 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a detail section drawn on the line 55 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 6 is a detail of construction;
In carrying out my invention, I employ a strand of wire A, or a strand of lightweight iron, circular in cross-section, which is bent into an oval, each end belng bent outwardly from the point a, inparallel-relation to provide arms B, and thence downwardly at the points I), to provide foot portions C.
Slidably .retained upon each arm is a bracket D, one end of which has a perforation through which the arm extends. These brackets co-operate with the foot lportions to provide a clutch by which the ho der pro er is connected to any suitable support an it will be understood that by sliding the brackets D, upon the arms, the space between them and .the foot portions may be regulated to fit sup orts of various thicknesses.
A flat ar E, is held u on the arms B, and has its ends enlarged andlprovided'with open slots E, to receive the arms and by which the bar is held in position, said slots extending in oblique direction to prevent accidental displacement when the bag is in osition. One edge of the bar is provided wit an extension E and upon the lower side and adjacent the extension, with a dc ending pointed pin'E, over which the bag is held after it hasbeen adjusted upon the oval portion of the holder.
After the device has been connected to a support which may be the edge of a bin, a beam, a wagon-Wheel, barrel, and in fact any other suitable support, the mouth of the bag is stretched over the oval portion with its body suspended through the same and one edge of the mouth of the bag is then extended over the bar and the projection and caught over the pin which securely looks it in position and the bar may then be pushed back upon the arms to ti htly draw themouth of the bag around the Ioop.
about four or six-inches in length which will permit of the adjustment of the brackets so 'that the holder may be accommodated to various kinds of supports and also to'permit of adjustment of the bar E, for the purpose heretofore explained, and it will be readily understood that when the brackets are pushed into position against the support, the outer end of the holder will have a tendency to droop which will cause the arms to bite or bind against the apertures in the brackets and prevent any possible danger of them slipping.
It will thus be seen that'I rovide an exceedingly cheap, simple and 'ghly efiicient device for the purposes stated. V
7 Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:'
1. A device of the kind described, comprising an open loop having parallel bent end portions, and a bracket slidable on each end portion and co-operating with the bent end to form an adjustable clutch.
2. Adevice of the kind described comprising an open loop having parallel end portions extending outwardly in the plane of the loop and then bent at right angles to form allel portions in the plane of the loop, said brackets being adjustable With respect to the foot portions.
3. A- bag holder comprising a strip of metal bent into an oval sha ed loop and whose ends are bent 'outwar y in parallel fixed foot portions, and brackets on the par- 1 directions to provide arms and downwardly at their ext-remeends to provide foot portions, brackets having openings at theirends adjacent the said pro'ection.
throu 'h which the arms extend and by which WALTER R EUBEN MOSHER. the said brackets are retained upon the arms, Witnesses:
arms, a projection extending from one edge of the bar and a pin depending from the bar a bar supported upon the arms, said bar hav- H. E. COLE, ing slots at its ends adapted to receive the H. J. STEVENS.
