RE GISTRY PACKAGE -ENVE LOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 20, 1907.
Application filed July 20,1906- Serial No. 327,071.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, ISAAC L. KING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pavia, in the county of Bedford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Registry Package- Envelops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in registry envelops for use in forwarding registered matter, through the mails, and in the provision of means for carrying a registry card in a receptacle forming a part of the envelop.
The invention comprises essentially a peculiar construction of envelop, the blank for whichis so con structed that when folded, it will form, beside the usual inclosure for registered matter, a pocket-formed by the flaps of the blank and in which the receipt card may be placed.
The invention consists further in various details of construction and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which:-
Figure 1 is a view showing the blank, the address surface being upon the reverse side thereof. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the envelop with the flaps folded. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation with part of the flaps folded, and Fig. 4is a rear elevation of the envelop showing the top and one of the end flaps unfolded and also .two of the tabs.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a blank having the top flap B, bottom flap G and end flaps D and F. The end flap F forming the pocket is first folded over the face of the blank and afterward the bottom flap G is folded over upon the outer face of the pocketforming flap F, and a tongue C which is cut from the bottom flap O is folded over the address face of the blank to which it is held by any adhesive material, thus securely holding the bottom flap. The end flap D is provided with an elongated slit D which is adapted to receive a flap O forming a part of the bottom flap 0, and a slit 0 formed in the bottom flap G enters the slit D when folded, thereby leaving the flap C outside of the end flap D. Tongues G are cut from the bottom flap 0 and are adapted to fold over the outer face of the end flap D to which they are held by a suitable adhesive material. Projections D and D upon the end flap D are adapted one to be held over the edge of the bottom flap 0 and the other about the end of the envelop and fastened to the rear face thereof. The projection D has a slit (1 therein to receive the flap 0 which is designed to be folded in between the pocket forming flap F and the bottom flap 0, in the manner shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The flap D has a slot d formed therein to receive the tongue formed at the end of the flap C.
It will thus be noted from the foregoing, when taken in connection with the drawings, that a pocket is formed intermediate the flaps D and F for the reception of a card, the ends of the flap D being held by the tips D and D being bent about the end of the envelop, while the flap G which forms a closure for one end of the card receiving pocket, is held by its end being passed through the slit (1 and the bottom of the card receiving pocket being formed by the flaps O, which, when the envelop is closed, are bent in the manner shown in Fig. l of the drawings and held in place by adhesive material. The various flaps being secured together in the manner shown and described, the top flap B is fastened down, thereby securely holding any inclosure within the pocket.
What I claim is:-
A registry package envelop made of a single blank of material having a pocket forming flap F, end flap D, bottom flap C and top flap B, said flap F adapted to fold over a central portion of the blank, the bottom flap C provided with a tongue struck up therefrom and designed to engage over the end of the envelop and -fastened to the address surface thereof, said bottom flap C having a slit C and a tongue or flap C" adapted to extend through a slit D formed in the end flap D, the contracted portions at the end of the flap D designed to engage over the end of the envelop, one of said contracted ends having a slit (1 for the reception of the tongue at the end of the bottom flap C, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
