To all whom 4it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE F. WALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arroyo, in the county Of Elk and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and uselul Improvements in Compound Tools, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is a compound tool oi the hatchet type, and includes a hatchet, a hammer, a nail puller, and Wrenches, all constructed and combined in a novel and improved manner.

Y The tool is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which V Figure 1 is a plan View thereof; Fig. 2 is an end view. Fig. 3 is a section on the. line 3 3 of'Fig. 1.

Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates the handle Of the tool. The head has onne side a hatchet blade 7 and on the other side a hammer head orpoll 8,

The edge of the hatchebblade iis serrated as at 10, and the face or edgeoi the claws Opposite thereto is serrated as at 11, forming a tapering space therebetween which will receive a nut or pipe to be engaged by the serrations and turned by manipulation of the handle. The hatchet blade is further provided with a diamond shaped Opening' 12 the edgesl of which' are serrated, which can be used as a Wrench on nuts and bolts. The blade also has in its inner edge a spike-pulling notch 13.

The poll` 8 of the hammer has a threaded stem 14 which screws'into an appropriate threaded socket in a neck 15 projecting from the body Oi the tol, and On one side the poll has an outwardly projecting or over-v said face or the projection opposite ot two witnesses.

The space between the parts 16 and 17 is adapted to receive a nut, and the construction forms a wrench whereby said nut can be turned. The size of the' space Or wrenchy can be varied by screwing the poll in or out. Also, the wrench can be formed on either side oi the neck 15, since the poll 8 can be turned so that the overhahging part 16 projects either inwardly or outwardly, that is, either toward the with the sides of the hatchet blade, whereby the hatchet can be used for splitting wood or the like without danger oi the 'ends Oi the claws catching on they wood and interfering with the drive of the hatchet.

I claimz' A. compound tool of the ham'mer type, having a. neck projecting from the body thereofand shoulders on each side of the neck, and a poll having a screw connection tothe neck, and a laterally projecting portion having a face parallel to the shoulderalthepoll being rotatable to bring the either shoulder, to form a wrench therewith.
