G. A. HOLMES. SNAP FASTENING BUCKLE.
APPLIOATION FILED JUNE 20, 1907.

GEORGE A. HOLMES, OF NEWTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
SNAP-FASTENING BUCKLE A Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 10, 1907.
Application filed June 20. 1907. Serial No. 379.878.
To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. HOLMES, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Newton, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Snap-Fastening Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to snap fastening buckles such as may be used to secure together the two ends of a girdle, garter or other garment, and has for its object the provision of a snap fastener buckle which shall hold the strap end adjustable but securely and is adapted, moreover, to use with materials of different thickness and texture.
In the drawings hereto annexed,Figure 1 is a plan view of a snap fastener buckle containing my improvement; Fig. 2 is a cross section of the buckle plate shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a-plan view of a modification; Fig. 4 is a cross section of Fig. 3 showing a strap attached; Fig. 5 is an elevation of a stud; and Fig. 6 is a plan view of a buckle with strap attached.
A particular object in the present-improvement is to provide a buckle which shall have the advantage of same time possess a snap fastening buckle plate.
In the figures, A is a buckle plate with parallel slots on either side at b with a central the simplicity essential to perforation at (1 wherein a snap fastenermcmber such as an eyelet 0 may be secured. In Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 I show a short tongue 0 formed on a tongue piece C which is mounted upon the central eyelet-e and isca ableof a turning movement upon the plate which is sometimes of assistance in making the engagement between the tongue 0 and the perforation of the strap M.
As shown in Fig. 4, the strap M is threaded up through one of the slots 1) over the plate A tongue piece a tongue buckle and at the p and down through the-opposite slot b. The strap has holes provided at intervals in the usual manner and any one of these holes may engage with the tongue 0 and thus secure a strap in its desired adjustment.
In Fig. 1 the tongue piece O is provided at the side opposite the tongue 0 with a cross head 0 which lies adjacent to one of the slots 1) so that the bearing of the strap M against the cross head 0 holds the tongue 0 squarely presented and prevents its withdrawal from the perforations of the strip. Moreover, any tendency of the strap or buckle plate to twist is accompanied by 'a tendency of the to turn and thus to cause one side or the other of the cross head 0 to bind more tightly against the strap.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
' 1. In a snap fastening buckle, the combination of a plate, a snap fastener member secured centrally thereon, the plate having a pair of slots, one on either side of the fastening member, a tongue piece loosely secured on the fastener member and having a buckle tpngue projecting therefrom over one of the s ots.
2. In a snap fastening buckle, the combination of a plate, a snap cured centrally thereon, the plate having a pair of slots, one on either side of the fastener member,'a tongue piece loosely secured on the fastener member and having a'buckle GEORGE A. HOLMES.
