APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 23, 1907 JOHN HETHERINGTON, OF BENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN.
COMBINATION BOTTLE-CAP AND 'JIZIICKIET-HOLIDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 18, 1908.
Application filed September 23, 1907. Serial No. 394,050.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN l'lETHERINGTON, a-cltizen of the United States, residing at Benton Harbor, in'the county of Berrien and State ofMichigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combination Bottle-Cap and Ticket-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
One of the objects of my invention is to produce a bottle cap of simple construction and one that may be easily slipped on and off from milk bottles or the like.
Anotherobject of my invention is to produce an improved ticket or coin clip adapted to be attached to the bottle.
In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure 1 isa side elevation of a device embodying the features of my invention, showing the same attached to a milk bottle and holding a ticket. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device.
The present embodiment of my invention comprises a rigid sheet metal disk 1,- preferably circular, and having suitable grasping ears 2 on diametrically opposite sides. Said ears are integral with the disk 1 and curved to conform to the bottle-head a. They are preferably bent inward so as to be sprung outwardly when the cap is placed upon the bottles, the more firmly to hold the disk in lace. As shown in Fig.2, the lower edges 3 of said ears are curved, making it easier to slip the cap on or oil from the bottle head. On the up er side of said disk, a ticket-holding clip 4 is astened in any suitable manner, as by soldering or riveting. Said clip is curved from the upper face of the disk and is provided with a toe 5 which normally rests upon the upper face of said disk. Said toe provides easy means for inserting the ticket or coin I).
My device provides a sim le and convenient means for closing a 70ttl8 to exclude dust or other foreign matter, at the same time, securing a coin or ticket which is usually laced inside or near an empty bottle, may to be returned, in exchange for a full bottle. The device is designed to securely hold the coin or ticket.
As the features of my inventionmay be embodied in devices of many different designs, I do not wish to be limited to the exact construction herein illustrated.
[claim as my invention:
As a new article of manufacture, a sheet metal combination bottle cap and ticket holder for milk bottles comprising a flat circular disk for covering the mouth of the bottle, having two curved bottle-head engaging cars at diametrically opposite. points upon its periphery, the lower edges of said .ears being curved to facilitate their entrance beneath the bottle head, and a ticket-holding clip on said disk ada ted to clamp the ticket against the upper si e of said disk.
JOHN HETHERINGTON.
