To all whom may concern.; l l n Be it known that I, WALTER I. BERRY, a
citizen of the United AStatesresiding at Washington, in thegcounty offWashington,
State Vof Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Laundry-V Cabinets; and I do herebydeclare vthe following to be a full, clear, and Vexactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to kwhich it appertainsfto make and use the same; n
This invention relates to laundry cabinets and more particularly to a cabinetrdesigned for use in the process of'ironing clothes;
in which the top may be swung back upon its hinges to expose theV body portionof an ironing board and other members which maybe swunginto position to` coperate with the` main or body portion of the board.
One of the primary features'of thel invenf tion resides in the provision of a cabinet` in which the additional sectionsV or'extensions may be folded in'tocompartments located at the ends of the'cabinet'.
A further feature `ofthe invention consists in so hinging the top of thercabinet and supporting the same when in raised position, that the articles as they are ironed may be placed thereon. 1 Y Y Y In the accompanying drawings, lFigure 1 is a front elevationl of the cabinet in closed position, Fig. 2 is a similar viewlbut with the top folded back and with the supplemental boards or extensions raised to coperate with the body of the board, Fig. 3 is an end elevar tion thereof, Fig, 4' isarear elevation, Fig. 5
is a lvertical `longitudinal sectional view Vtherethrough with the., extensions folded,
Fig. 6 isa similar view but showing the extension to coperatewith `the body of the board, Fig. 7 is a plan view of one end of the n cabinet. n n
Referring more sv eciiically to the I drawings the cabinet is s own as being provided with a compartment 10 to which access may be had by, means ofdoors 11 hinged to-the front of the cabinet and above this compartment and in the cabinet there are received a number of drawers 12.` The compartment is designed for, the reception of soiled linen, and the 'drawers for the reception of irons, ironing Wax, iron holders and etc. n l
Except for a hinged coverithe cabinet is open at its top and disposed upon the top of n n Y Speci'cationrof Letters Patent. "Applicationelealivrarch as, 1907.` serial Ndl 365,091'.I

the cabinet' is thebody portion 13 of an ironingfboard, the same beingheld thereon by means of pivoted hook members 14 which are engaged with the eyemembers 15 upon cleats 16 which are secured to the sides ofthe cabinetjand extend from the frontto the back of thecabinetat its top and above the drawers 12, it being vunderstood of course that by removing one or more of these drawers, the
vhook members will be sufliciently exposed t0 permit of rtheir being disengagedfrom the eyernembers to release the body portion 13 of the ironing board should this become necessary. The hook members 14 are se- The prlmary object of the invention is to. provide a construction ofcabinet of this class cent cleats 16 `to prevent longitudinal move- Vmentof 'the boards as clearly shown in the longitudinal `sectional viewrof the drawings.
' Hinged to a strip18 which is supported upon the upper ends of vertically disposed cleats 19 located upon the back of the cabinet, isacover -20 which cover is designed to be folded upon the top of the cabinet to cover the body portion 13 of the ironing board whenV the same is not in use and this cover is also foldable to lie in a horizontal plane but. extending rearward from the cabinet and in this manner expose the said portion of the ironing board for use. A cleat 21 is secured upon the back of the cabinet and a block22 is secured upon the said back but in a plane above the cleat and this cleat andv block serve to foldably support a bracket 23 upon which bracket the top for the cabinet is designed to. rest when folded back.
, Corn artmen'ts 24 and 25 -are formed in the en s of the cabinet and are closed respectively by means of hinged doors 26 and 27. VThat end ofthe body portion 13 of the ironing board which is adjacent the end compartment 24 is cut away as at 28 for the reception of the inner end portion of an extension board 29 which. board is hinged to thesaid body portion 13 as at 30 and is movable to lie within the compartment 241 or to extend in the same plane as the portion 13 ofthe ironing board to form an exlower end of this brace 31 is engaged or seated against the upper edge of a block 32 secured upon the outer face of the door. The upper edge of this block is beveled as is also the free end of the brace and consequently the extension board is firmly supported in position for use. The body portion 13 of the ironing board and also the eX- tension board 29 is provided with a covering 33 of any suitable material and with padding 34 and in order to present a substantially unbroken surface. when the extension board is in use, the covering for the body portion 13 is extended across the cut away portion 28 in the end of the ironing board as clearly shown in the longitudinal sectional view in the drawings and by a dotted line in Fig. 7. To the other end 35 of the body portion 13 of the ironing vboard is hinged a block 36 upon which is secured the rear end oi a sleeve board 37 which is also provided with a covering 38. The block 36 includes an eX- tension 39 which, when the sleeve board 37 is swung to extend above the body portion 13 of the ironing board, rests upon the upper face thereof and supports the sleeve board in spaced relation to the upper face of the ironing board. When not in use this sleeve board is ioldable to lie within the compartment 25.
From the foregoing description of my invention it will be observed that an ironing board suitable for all purposes has been provided and that sections of the board7 when not needed may be folded out of the way and out of sight.
What is claimed is- 1. A device of the class described comprising a' cabinet, a cover hinged to the cabinet, an ironing board comprising a main portion and a hinged extension, cleats extended across the cabinet within thc same and at its top, eye members carried by the cleats, hook members pivoted to the under side of the main section ol the ironing board, a compartment located at one end of the cabinet, the said hinged extension of the ironing board being receivable in this compartment, a door hinged in position to close said compartment, a brace hinged to the under side of the said extension, and a seat for the free end of said brace xed upon the said door.
2. A device ol" the class described comprising a cabinet, a cover hinged to the cabinet, an ironing board comprising a main portion and a hinged extension., cleats extended across the cabinet within the same and at its top, eye members carried by the cleats7 hook members pivoted to the under side ol' the main section of the ironing board, a compartment located. at one end oi' the cabinet, the said hinged extension of the ironing board being receivable in this compartment, a door hinged in position to close said compartment, a brace hinged to the under side of the said extension, a seat for the free end. of said brace Vlixed upon the said door, the said extension being hingedv in a cut away portion in one end oi the body portion of the board, and a cover ior the board, said cover being stretched across the said cut-away end of' the main portion of the board to provide an unbroken ironing surface between. the two members.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
TALTER P. BERRY.
