IMPROVED BUCKLE.
The Schedule referred to in these L ettex's Patent and making part of the sanare.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that we,W1LLrAM MACLEAN and JAMES H. HARRIS, of Vermont, in the county of Fulton, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in whichvFigure lis a vertical section through line :c :l: of
Figure 2 is a top view. This invention has for itsobject the connecting of buckles with straps without the use of stitching; and
to this end It consists in providing a buckle with two loops at its rear end, one above another, the lower loop being for the retention of the fixed end of the strap, and the upper loop fo'r the reception ofthe free endlafter passing the tongue-of the buckle through the strap.
In the drawingsa is'a buckle, and
b the tongue, provided at its rear end with a crossbar, b', pivoted transversely of the buckle, and about midway of the length.
The sides of the buckle widen as they extend backnesses ofstrap in this loop, and the end of the .strap i is alwayssecurely retained without the use of stitching.
The upper loop c' subserves the usual purpose of confining the free end of the strap after it has been passed over the tongue ofthe buckle.
