- To all 'whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK M. PETERS, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Lace of which the following isa specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to a shoe lace guard and cover, my object being to construct a simple, inexpensive device adapted'to be detachably applied to shoes utilizing laces as fastening means, and which device is so positioned as to cover and protect the shoe lace, and being of such constructionas that when in use it presents a neat and finished appearance.

' My invention is particularly adapted for use in connection with low shoes of the blucher type, although .it may be easily formed to fit on either a high or low shoe on- Figure 1 1s a perspective view of a lace guard of my improved construction, the

In the construction of the device as shown, 1 designates the body of the uards which is formed of a section of flexibleflilastic material, the upper end of which is preferably wider than the lower end, and secured in any suitable manner to the lower end of said body, on the top side thereof, is a how 2, or similar article of ornamentation. Fixed to the under side of the body 1, adjacent the center thereof is a transversely arranged stav 3, of thin resilient metal,

which normally holds the body 1 in a trans versely curved position in order that it will fit snugly over the instep portion of the shoe; and secured to the under side of the body 1, adjacent the corners thereof, are hooks 4, or analogous fastening devices, the lower pair of which engage beneath the edge of the leather forming the shoe upper at the lower end of the opening in the front of the shoe; and the upper pair of hooks engage over the edge of the upper at the top thereof.

Formed in the upper end of the body 1, at the center thereof, is a pair of apertures 5,,through which the ends of the laces are drawn, and the projecting ends of said laces are tied in front of the upper end of the body 1.

A device of my improved construction is very simple and inexpensive, can be easily and quickly placed in position upon or removed from a shoe, can be made 1n various colors to harmonize with different colored shoes, and when properl positioned for use presents a neat and finis ed appearance, and

In some instances the lower pair of books 4 may be engaged through the lower pair of eyelets, or they may engage that portion of the shoe lace which passes through the lowermost pair of eyelets.

I claim 1.- A shoe lace guard, comprising a flexible body adapted to be positioned on a shoe immediately over the opening in the front thereof, a resilient stay transversely arranged on the under side of the central portion of said body, and hooks secured to the ends of the body, which hooks engage portions of the shoe.

2. A shoe lace guard, comprising a flexible body adapted to be positioged on a shoe immediately'over the opening in the front thereof, a resilient stay transversely arranged on the under side of said body at the center thereof, hooks secured to the under side of said body at theends thereof, and there being apertures formed through said body at the upper end thereof.

3.
