This invention relates to a device which ma be used as a folding stand or book case an has for its object to provide a simple device of this kind which may be arranged as a stand for venders of newspapers, magazines, or other-periodicals, or which may be used as a book case.

While the invention is especially designed as a stand for street venders of newspapers,

magazines, or other periodicals it. isevident that it may beemployed in any other connection where it would be adapted.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the ap ended claim.

In the embodiment illustrated the stand comprises a flat metallicback piece .1, the upper end of whichis of preferably curved form as indicated, and 2 and 3 indicate the side pieces and supportin shelves respectively, the former of which are adapted to fold inwardly= against the ends of the supporting shelves when the latter are in horizontal position, the sup orting shelves being adapted to fold inwardl y against the face of the back piece when the stand is collapsed.

It is to be noted that the upper ends of the side ieces extend above the upper supporting s elf, when the latter is in horizontal or supporting position and constitute end guards for the newspapers or the like, which may be arranged upon the upper supporting she fin position.
