Description
P. SHEPARD. SOUND MODIFIER FOR TALKING MACHINES. j
' APPLIUATIO N FILED SEPT. 21, 190-9.
EDWARD P. SHEPARD, or San SOUND'-MGDIFIER F621,
1 (1M whom it inc-y concern:
Be it known that l, EDWARD P. SHEPARD, I t citizen oi the United States, residing at I 1 F nn Diego, in the county of San Diego and w Nate of toalifornia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sound-1 jvi ilifiQlS for 'laikii'1g-Machines, of Whichi th following is a specification. My invention relates to an improvement in I sound modifiers for talking machines, and l its object is to provide means whereby the sound can be modified or reduced Without} in unywise producing a detrimental mutliing en'cct. 4 The invention consists of certain novel features of construction and. eon ibination of parts to be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
in the accompanying drawings, l igure i I a iragmcnianv new oi. the goose-neck of a l talking nmchiim. showing the invention applied, lfig. is a plan View of the modifier, and Fig. 3 a sectional. view of the same. i A. represents the sound modifier, which] may be located within the sleeve B by which the soundingbox is attached to the goose neck C, or Within any equivalent part of the i talkingmachine. f The modifier is composed of two Wiregauze disks 1 and 2, the disk 2 being of less i diameter than the disk 1, and interposed be i tween disks is one or more -layers oft fabric such as silk, which allows the sound waves to readiiy pass without affecting the sound with the exception of redueing'orl Specification of Letters Zatent. Application filed September 21, 1909.

modifying it.
The layers of silk or other fabric are of the same diameter as the disk 2, and as the fabric is placed between the disks the outer edges of the disk 1 are brought around or folded upon the disk 2, \vlierel'iy the fabr c is retained between the disks and the two disks are connected to- From the foregoing, it will be seen that; I have provided ing thetone of the sound-Waves which is easy to construct and in which all of the parts are firmly held together.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. A sound modifier for talking-machines comprising a disk,
folded over for retaining the fabric upon the'disk.
2. A sound modifier for comprising a large and a small disk, a layer of fabfic interposed between the two disks and the edges of the larger disk being folded over upon the smaller disk for connecting the smaller disk and fabric together.
