Be it known that I, MAX E. BEROLZHEIMER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new' 'and ,improved Adjustable'Punch; 'and I' hereby declare that the following is a full, .,clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this speciiication, and the letters of reference marked thereon, in which'the same letter represents the same thing in each figurev Figure l isa front View of my Iimproved punch.

Figure 3 represents one end oi' a bank-check, upon which the punch would be operative.

A represents the bed or base.

B, the arm.

C, the post.

D, the punch-knob.

E, the punch-stem.

F F F, the adjustable punches.

G, the pivot, on which they turn.

H H, the springs.

1 I, the notches, in which they catch.

J J, punches, displaced.

K, the punch-plate.

L, the slot beneath it.

The purpose of this punch is to facilitate the removal, from monetary instruments, of certain parts, not readily replaceable, to prevent alterations of value.

The checks are provided, in the margin, with several numbered divlslons, similar to what are show?A inY fig. 3, one being for units, one for tens, another' for hundreds, and so on.

Suppose'a check to be forl sixteen dollars, which it is desired to indicate in the proper divisions: Release spring H from catch I, in adjustable punch F, numbered 1, and let-springH catch in the upper notch. Placing it in position, a blow of the hand on knob D will force all the punches, except No. 1, through the' ent, is-
