IMPROVEMENT IN INSTRUMENT FOR PULLING WEEDS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom'i-t may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL M. Holmes, of Watkins, in the county of Schuyler, and State of New York, have iuvented'anew and useful Instrument for Extracting or Pulling Weeds or other vegetable substances; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had" to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

My invention has for its object to furnish a simple, effective, and convenient instrument, by means of which weeds and other vegetable substances may be removed or (lmwu from the enrth rapidly and conveniently; and

It consists in the construction and combination of the several parts of the instrument, as hereinafter described.

(I (I, jaws, having single or double rows of teeth or imlentations, (which may be cut, filed, or cast,) on their inner surfaces, and which mesh into each other when the instrument is closed, thus grasping and holding firmly the weeds or other substances to be pulled.

'lhe jaws and handle of the instrument form, with the body thereof, obtuse angles of about one hundred and thirty-five degrees each, so that when the instrument is held in the hand, with the arm by the side, the jaws and handle of the instrument will he ncnrly or quite parallel with the surface of the ground.

As a. new article of nnmufacture, I claim the hereindescribed instrument, consisting of serrated and longitudinally-grooved jaws, oblique shanks and handles, parallel or nearly so to the plane of the blades, as doscri bed.
