Description

ARRANGEMENT FOR CANNULAS
The present invention relates to protected cannulas preferably for sampling blood.
The cannulas and corresponding equipment used for sampling blood and injecting therapeutic liquids are in many cases of disposable type, i.e. they are discarded after use. This causes problems when handling used and polluted cannulas since the sharp needles of the cannula can injure the staff member handling it. This entails the risk of an infectious virus, e.g. an HIV or hepatitis virus being transmitted to the staff member, as a result of small blood residues on the cannula from an infected patient who has been treated being transmitted to the staff member.
The present invention is intended to overcome said drawbacks and is characterised by the subsequent claims.
The present invention relates to protective sleeves displaceable in the longitudinal direction over a holder part provided with a twin-pointed cannula, whereby said protective sleeves serve as adapters arranged to be fitted into an appropriate corresponding fitment contained in a corresponding blood tube holder.
Fig. 1 shows a protected cannula for blood sampling with its various components.
Fig. 2 shews the corresponding blood tube holder. Fig. 3 shows a protected cannula in the transport position prior to use.
Fig. 4 shows a protected cannula in the position in which it is fitted.
Fig. 5 shows a protected cannula in the application position.
Fig. 6 shows a protected cannula in the locked position after use.
Fig. 7 shows a protected cannula after application, once it has been removed from the blood tube holder.
Fig. 1 shows a protected cannula for sampling blood. The protected cannula comprises a cannula (l) arranged in a holder part 2. Holder part (2) is provided at either end with a locking device (3) and (4) in the shape of a recess cr similar device. Holder part (2) comprises aisc locking devices at either end (5) and (6), which, in the transport position, serve as frictional locking devices for the respective protective sleeve. Holder part (2) comprises a section of larger diameter (7) and a section of smaller diameter (8). This makes it possible to slide the protective sleeves over one another. Holder part (2) is provided with a protective sleeve (9) and (10) for the respective end. Each protective sleeve is provided with a permanent locking device such as a locking flange (11, 12) or a similar device to which corresponds a permanent locking device in holder part (3) and (4). Each protective sleeve is provided with a fitment, preferably a bayonet socket (13) and (14), arranged to be fitted to the respective corresponding fitment of the blood tube holder in the form of a corresponding bayonet socket (19) and (18). Each protective sleeve is textured by grooving (15) or a similar method so as to provide sliding. Each protective sleeve is provided with a collar (15').
Fig. 2 shows a blood tube holder (16) pertaining to the protected cannula for sampling blood. Blood tube holder (16) is arranged to contain a blood tube (17). Blood tube holder (16) is provided with fitment (16) and (19) such as a bayonet socket or similar device arranged to receive the corresponding fitment such as a bayonet part of the respective protective sleeve (13) and (14). Fitment (18) and (19) of the blood tube holder is provided with corresponding slits (20) and (21), as a result of which the fitment is resilient. This enables the protective sleeve to be fitted into the respective fitment of the blood tube holder without major resistance.
Fig. 3 shows a protected cannula for sampling blood in the transport position, i.e. the position prior to use. In this position flange (11) and (12) of the respective protective sleeve (9) and (10) is retained by friction, which results in temporary locking since the protective sleeves (9) and (10) are frictionally secured to the corresponding friction lock of holder part (5) and (6). In consequence the protective sleeves (9) and (10) are, in the transport position, secured only by friction to the respective end of the holder part.
Fig. 4 shows a protected cannula, the rear protective sleeve (9) of which is fitted to blood tube holder (16) inasmuch as fitment (13) of the protective sleeve is fitted to the corresponding fitment (19) in the blood tube holier. By fitting rear protective sleeve ( 9) one causes the protected cannula to be retained on blood tube holder (16).
Fig. 5 shows a protected cannula in which also the forward protective sleeve (10) is fitted by means of fitment (14) in the corresponding fitment (18) of blood tube holder (16). By fitting protective sleeves (9) and (10) with the aid of a respective bayonet socket (13) and (14) to the corresponding bayonet socket (19) and (20) in the blood tube holder, holder part (2) is retained in a position in which both pointed ends cf its cannula are bared. This accordingly is the condition for exposing both ends of the protected cannula, which per se is a condition for use. The bared pointed forward end of the cannula is used for insertion into the patient whereas the bared pointed rear end of the cannula, which may be provided with a rubber closure (23) is arranged so as to be connected to a bleed tube by pushing it through the blood tube's rubber stopper (22).
Fig. 6 shows a protected cannula after use. The forward protective sleeve
(10) is pulled cut until the two protective sleeves are locked in relation to the respective ends of holder part (2), whereby the cannula used is protected, as regards its two pointed ends, by the protective sleeves pulled out. Accordingly, this position makes reuse or exposure of the pointed ends of the cannula impossible.
Fig. 7 shows that when the forward protective sleeve (10) is released fro blood tube holder (16), both protective sleeves are locked to corresponding ends in the holder part. In this position, in which the cannula is protected, it is removed from blood tube holder (16), thus enabling reuse of the blood tube holder.
The invention is, of course, not intended to be limited to the entodiments specially described and shown in the drawings, tut many modifications and variations are possible within the scope of the inventive idea, such as can be gathered from the attached claims.
