Abstract

A confirmatory test on a silicon chip is based on the ELISA and WB method. The result, which has traditionally been obtained by chemical means, is obtained in this case by physical means using ultrasound (PZ) (approximately 500-fold acceleration) and the surface plasmon resonance effect. The 9 measurement points (M) are scanned by means of fibre optics (LB) and photodiodes (A). The final result is displayed via a logical circuit on a liquid crystal display (L). In an unambiguous case, the result is displayed verbally (e.g., antiHIV-negative), otherwise only as a code number which can be looked up in an accompanying diagnostic booklet. The assembled device is less than half the size of a matchbox. It also possesses a simple punching device which when used as an ear clip with clasp (for puncturing the ear lobe) displays the result automatically after 3 minutes. To prevent possible infection, the partial antigens (M) immobilized in the chip are destroyed with a disinfectant liquid (after 10 minutes).
