Abstract
A circuit for monitoring digital periodic signals is disclosed. Parts of a reference signal and parts of the signal to be monitored, for example the frame marker of a PCM signal, are checked to see if they match. The signal parts to be checked are characterised by a marking signal that starts and stops the comparison.

The invention relates to a circuit arrangement for monitoring digital periodic signals.
The use of digital periodic signals for message transmission also entails the need to monitor such signals for errors. This monitoring is difficult due to the usual high data rates of such signals (e.g. 150 Mbit per second).
The invention is based on the object of specifying a circuit by means of which fault monitoring can take place.
Dies geschieht erfindungsgemäß mit einer Schaltungs- anordnung zur Überwachung von digitalen periodischenThis is done according to the invention with a circuit arrangement for monitoring digital periodic
Signals which contain a target signal generator, a comparison circuit, an error counter circuit and a marker generator, the digital periodic signal to be monitored and an output signal of the target signal generator to be monitored being brought to two inputs of the comparison circuit, one input of the error counter circuit the output of the comparison circuit is connected and the mark generator for controlling the error counting periods is connected to a control input of the error counting circuit.
The circuit arrangement according to the invention offers the possibility of monitoring digital signals of very high data rate with little effort. The invention is explained in more detail with reference to a figure. This shows an exemplary circuit arrangement which comprises a desired signal generator 1, a comparison circuit 2, an error counter circuit 3 and a mark generator 4.
The output of the desired signal generator 1 is connected to an input of the comparison circuit 2. The actual signal I to be monitored is brought to the second input of the comparison circuit 2. The output of the comparison circuit 2 is connected to the input of an error counter circuit 3. Their control input EN is connected to the output of the mark generator 4. The monitoring result is available at the output of the error counter circuit.
When digital characters are transmitted, a larger number of characters is usually combined to form a data block which is preceded by synchronization information. This synchronization information is generated by the transmitter and evaluated on the receiving side. This procedure ensures that the transmitter and receiver work in the perfect synchronization or synchronism required for error-free data transmission.
The information about the structure of the synchronization information present in the receiver is now used according to the invention for error monitoring of a digital data signal. A target signal generator 1 is provided, which generates a digital reference signal, the period of which corresponds to the signal to be monitored. The reference signal contains the synchronization information of the digital received signal. The parts of the too Monitoring signals which contain synchronization information are now compared with the reference signal. If a difference occurs, this is to be regarded as an error, which is registered by the error counter circuit 3. After a predetermined time has elapsed, the error counter circuit can be read out and a statement can be made about the error accumulation during the comparison period. It is now necessary to mask parts of the signal to be monitored, since only the synchronization information is to be compared and evaluated. This is done according to the invention in such a way that a mark generator 4 is provided which starts a mark signal which activates or deactivates the error counter circuit 3 via a control input. This mark signal thus ensures that the error counter circuit is only active during the periods during which the synchronization information of the signal to be monitored is compared with the reference signal of the desired signal generator. During the remaining periods, the error counter circuit 3 is inactive and the result of the comparison circuit 2 is not taken into account.
The specified circuit offers the simple possibility of error monitoring with digital, periodic signals with little effort. This low effort enables the monitoring of digital signals of very high data rates.
