Abstract

A method of delivering an optimized power level from a backup energy system (20) to a load (10) connected to a primary energy supply via a DC link (16) and an inverter is provided (18). The method has the steps of: sensing a voltage of the DC link (16) connected to the load (10); connecting a converter (22) between the backup energy supply (20) and the DC link (16); evaluating a rate of change of the voltage of the DC link (16); determining an estimate of the average load current using the rate of change of the DC link voltage; and controlling the converter (22) using the average load current to switch the optimized power output from the backup energy supply (20) to the load (10).
